I went to the range today and fired 200 rounds of Federal American Eagle 45acp. It was the first time I had fired anything other than Winchester White Box. Total round count is over 2000.

About 50 rounds in, the slide failed to lock back after the last round in the mag was fired. I used my usual thumb forward grip, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't putting pressure on the slide release. It didn't reoccur.

I'm assuming it was the ammo as that was the variable that changed. Is American Eagle known as low pressure or anything? I'm not really concerned because this is the first time my HK45 has had any issue at all.

American Eagle is excellent ammo and not underpowered. If you remember which magazine it was that you were using when the issue occured place a mark on it (I make mine on the bottom floor plate). If it happens again using that same magazine then it could be the magazine springs. USP magazines have been know for coming with weak springs that caused the same problem.

The mags are already mixed up. If it ever happens again, I'll do that and try a different spring. Thanks, Mark.

Speaking of magazines - how do I disassemble the HK45 mags? I haven't cleaned the interior of them yet. Maybe it's about time I did.
