View Full Version : USPc9 vs USPc40 loaded weight

Can anyone with a high precision scale and both of these pistols tell me what the respective loaded weights are when loaded with 10 rounds? (please state the ammo used)
I had always viewed them as interchangeable from a CCW perspective (assuming good ammo) - but it seems to me now that the USPc9 is lighter enough that it makes carry easier. Do the lighter grain bullets (I think 115 +P corbon) really add up to a meaningful difference?
That would be a great help - thanks in advance. Maybe I can entice someone by mailing them some of my extra extended baseplates? :27000000:

I'm guessing the weight difference would be negligible. Just buy a good holster and belt, and for CCW puposes, I doubt you would be able to tell the difference. An interesting question though.

I should have mentioned that I have both (actually I have two of each) - and the reason I'm asking is that when I put each with an additional mag in a waist pack, the 40 definitely feels heavier - closing my eyes I've been able to pick it by weight.
I just wanted to quantify it...
I just got a Blackhawk Serpa - I know some people don't like them, but it seems like it works great for me.

of course the 40 cal is going to be heavier with equal amount of bullets because the 40 cal round weighs more than the 9mm. however the weight should be minimal. personally if i had to choose between 10 rounds of 9mm or 10 rounds of 40 cal id rather have the 40 and deal with the extra bit of weight.

I agree with getting a good belt. I did not know until this year how much difference a quality belt can make. I am sorry that is not a direct answer to your question. I don't know the conversion from grains to ounces, but the bullet itself is about the only difference in weight that should be noticeable.

All the replies so far have basically said the weight difference should not matter. (except for the useless joking comment)
That's why I was hoping for numbers, because I'm not sure how much the weight difference would have to be for people to care on average.
Like I said, subjectively I can tell the difference - and sometimes I am not using a belt setup so that's not the root of the problem.
But anyway, here's more detail on what I was thinking:
the difference between 115 gr 9mm and 180 gr 40s&w is 65. Multiply that by 21 (an extra mag) and it comes out to over 3 ounces. Which to me is an extra knife, or extra 5 to 10% the weight. And I think that's still conservative since the bullet shells/jackets would be larger for the 40 also, adding more weight.
But there's nothing like having the real numbers...

The difference in weight between my fully loaded Glock G22 and G17 is only one ounce. A three ounce difference between a USP40c and a USP9c seems HIGHLY unlikely. I would be surprized if the difference were more than half an ounce. If you carried the extra knife you wouldn't notice the added weight.

Try carrying less makeup.
