I bought a new USP fullsize in 9mm. I only put about 300 rounds through it so far. The extractor shoots the spent casing straight back into my face every couple of rounds. I don't think this is normal seeing as I have three other USPs all in .45 I tried out the 9mm with Blazer, American Eagle, and Magtech ammo and it does the same thing using each of them. What do you guys think?? Peace

My .45 has hit me in the forehead on 2 occasions out of about 500 rounds. I would say yours is doing it more than whatever is normal. Sorry to not have a helpful solution for ya.

So do you think I should send it back to HK?

Bad form is most likely the culprit.

Try stiffening your wrists when you shoot it. I noticed that made a difference where my brass went with my Glocks and my USP 40.

check out the USPc vs. P2000sk link in my sig. It's basically new, spring needs to be broken in and softened. Put a good 100 rounds of +p in there and you'll be good.

The recoil spring is VERY stiff for the first 1k rounds or so. As it softens-up and wears-in, it will eject brass farther and farther, and less and less toward your forehead :)
As others have said, good form helps too.

same thing happens when my girlfriend shoots my usp9sd, hot casings down the shirt every time. when I tried to mimmic the problem, I found that if I limp wrist it just a little I can get hot casings in the forehead every time.
stiffening up your grip should help the issue, or in my case, screw the can on and the problem also goes away.

Would storing the gun with the slide locked back help wear in the spring?

Shooting hot loads will help as it is probably your extractor spring. Mine throws each brand of brass to a slightly different spot. All in all this is a fine gun. Yes, you can send it to a number of smiths on this site and they can tune it.

I highly recommend NOT storing the gun with the slide locked back. From what I've learned about springs, I would say that is not a good idea. Just fire more ammo through it. The best thing to do for it is to just work it, not have one continuous load on it. Just my suggestion. You can do what you want.

I definitely won't do this, just curious.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I really love this gun. I'm sure lots of folks here have had this expierience at the range: Hey whats that a Sig?? No, an HK, I let them shoot it. . .then they ask where they can get one. Awesome.
