View Full Version : USPf45 +2 Rounds Vs. HK45 Ergonomics?!?!

If the HK45 fit your hand like a glove compared to the USPf45 being a slightly less comfortable** fit, would that (to you) be worth the -2 less .45acp rounds the HK45 holds compared to the latter in any SERIOUS shooting situation?
I have given this thought a few days to mull over before posting.
**in this case the phrasing "slightly less comfortable" translates to mean the USPf45 is a little hefty for the shooter to grasp absolutely comfortably. Even though slightly awkward, the shooter does feel he is able to handle the firearm safely/effectively which translates to positive results at the range on paper. To put it simply it "feels" a little BIG, which I'm sure anyone who may have held both weapons separately can understand.
Thank you, I appreciate your serious responses even if this topic is redundant.

My ability to shoot and feel comfortable with a weapon is more paramount in my opinion then a 2+ capacity.;)

I would agree with Chef. I had a USP tactical in 45 and I LOVED it! But I have to say I love my HK45 even more it fits Soooo nice in the hand. And you can put 11 rounds in the HK45 mags. So you only loose 1 round!

The trigger's nicer and the HK45 is a much more natural pointer in my hands. My best friend has a USP 45f and I've been to the range a few times and tried his. I'd take that USP45f over most other guns, but I'm glad I own an HK45.
If you're thinking about them as serious combat handguns, don't overlook the ambi slide releases and improved magazine buttons. It's also a bit more rounded which may aid holster draw. You'd have to ask someone else about that, though.

I know you "can" but does that mean you necessarily "should"? What's the word on forcing the 11th round? Any harm to the springs and whatnot?

Never tried it myself. Personally, I'd rather have 10 rounds that were 99.8% likely to feed than 11 rounds that were useless to me.
Realistically, if you're a private citizen and find yourself in a situation you can't get out of with 10 rounds in the mag and 1 in the pipe.... the extra 2 rounds isn't going to help you. Even if 4 guys came at you, that's enough to put at least a double tap in each.

This is very true.

Ill go with the +1 one in the clip when I am driving through North Vegas or parts of LA
When feel the pressure that it takes to put in the 11th round it doesnt feel like it is enough to screw anything up.
God knows I dont ever want to even fire one round but I am more than happy to have one extra just incase.

Me too, the comfort and intuitiveness of the HK45 make it more than a worth while trade in my opinion....

Shot placement is key. If you feel the HK 45 is more comfortable, and you can hit better with it, that's what you should be carrying around. Confidence and proficiency is top in a CCW. I'd feel much more safe with a 1911 and it's 8 shots, then a VP 70 with its 18.

Unless you've got a major motion picture deal or are a captain of industry, Baca isn't going to issue a permit.

That's why I stay in the south eastern part of the country where my FL CCW is valid all over.

I've lived down that way. Southern Cal beats North Florida every day of the week and twice on Sunday. ;) No humidity, no bugs, and no hurricanes.

Except ypou have wildfires, mudslides, your own storms, power outages, higher taxes, smog issues, uncaring government officials, strict environmental standards, and you can't buy a P30 there :D
I live in South FL and I'd take humidity over smog, bugs over wildfires, and a hurricane over an earthquake. Cause most hurricanes are a free day off of work and the sun is shining. Also an excuse to drag out my gun collection and load up on ammo in case stuff goes bad lol.

I would take the USP 45 myself. But I have bigger than average hands and can put a good grip on it. If you have average/smaller hands then definitely go HK45. I have handled a HK45 and it felt good but I would much rather go with with the USP (lower price, basically same gun). You sure do hear a lot about "ergonomics" lately, I think it's over rated.

I agree with you on this, but when I say ergonomics originally I meant more so the way it fits smaller hands better. This, I assume, is due to the smaller overall circumference around the grip of the HK45 compared to the USPf45. Even though there may be a connection to the "spiderman shape/design", I think most that handled both guns would agree the HK45 favors smaller hands in general, despite the shape/form it has taken.
Thanks for all the good replies so far.
