I've been hearing reports that HK is out of many spare parts for the P-7. So I wondering if the gun breaks will I have an unrepairable firearm.
Has anyone had any experiences with their HK P-7 being repaired lately?

HK and HK Inc will still repair the P7 if / when they have the parts. You have to keep in mind that HK only makes parts in runs. They make x-amount of parts then they don't for a while. The recent influx of Police Trade-Ins used up a lot of the extra parts that HK had in Germany.

Thanks.
I'm concerned about them having the parts for a gun that is no longer in production. Not just now but in the coming years.

Like I said they will have parts, but HK is a small opperation with alot of work so they schedule when to run misc. parts. To give you an idea there was a time a few years ago when they weren't producing any MP5 magazines. Then they made a large production run.

Pick up a spare drop safety spring, that seems to be the weak link in a P7.

How can you tell if your drop safety spring has gone bad?

The drop safety will stick in the "up" posistion.

How exactly do you know that's the case? Does that mean the pistol won't fire, or will fire when it shouldn't?

Won't fire. Rearward movement of the sear lever brings down the FP block and allows the FP to move freely. With a broken FP block spring there would be no tension on the FP block. This would cause failure of the FP to cock or failure to fire.

Gun Parts Corp. has them listed as In Stock for 13.05$
And this should let you do it yourself if you get stuck. (http://webpages.charter.net/gemarsh/p7.html) Lots of pictures. Or if you bring it to me in a bag, I'm closer than HK Service Dept. :)

While you're ordering that drop safety spring you should really have them send you an extra canooter valve. They're not that expensive and when they get dirty with powder residue the gun can get finicky.

As someone interested in purchasing a P7M8, it makes me wonder if it would be worth it to purchase a P7 PSP (trade in) just for the parts. Does anyone know if the P7 PSP shares much of the same parts internally as the P7M8?

Assuming you do eventually have problems with the P7, what kind of round count are we talking about before a possible part replacement? And how common is this?
