Sorry if this is an idiotic question, but a jaunt with the search engine and FAQ yielded nothing.

The P7M8 manual I have shows a cleaning tool and a cleaning brush. The LNIB P7M8 I just received has only the brush and not the tool.

Do I really need both?

IMHO, No. I have both, and I think the brush and a good cleaner does a fine job. Very little gain from using the tool unless you have a really dirty gas tube. If you feel you need a tool they will be available again from iscott in Sept.

This may sound weird, but check the P7M8 box again. If the box is one of the black plastic boxes then the scraper will be found in it's slot on the far right side of the box in alittle cut out for it. A lot of people don't even see it there. Very common to overlook it.

Personally I do feel that the scaper is needed. At first HK with the P7 never included a scaper, but then when the P7M8, and P71M13 came out in the early 1980's they started inclucing the scraper.

Well, your right about that I saw in the manual that it was suppose to come with the tool and had to stare at the box for a minute before noticing it.

I'd prefer having both as well. And cueist is spot on (as usual). That little scraper black and actually looks like part of the box. If you still can't find it, there is a guy that goes by the handle of iScott on the PCT forums that makes them. Ive not used one of his myself, but all of the posts I've seen reguarding his scraper have been positive. He makes them to the factory specs and out of metal that is softer than the gas cylinder itself so no worries of damaging the pistol.

He's got a giant stack of them, but I think he's being shipped overseas or something. I'm not sure. It's worth trying, though.

The brush is primarily designed for normal cleaning between shooting sessions. The scraper is for serious cleaning of the bottom of the cylinder if it becomes fouled, as the brush does not touch this area. I have seen P7's that have been so fouled in the bottom of the piston and clogiging of the port that there was no longer any braking action from the piston, and in a P7M13 with the squared backstrap, its pretty painful to fire...

Thanks for the responses, everyone.

I did check the box again and do see where it is supposed to be, but isn't. I'll get one of the scrapers from Scott.

Huey, my NIB M8 didn't have the scraper either. The first person I spoke with at HK said they "didn't come with that anymore".

The second person I spoke with (after a three-day wait) said they (HK USA) were out of stock and waiting on a back-order from Germany. I then asked where the guns are packed for shipment, since you would think that, if the piece came from Germany, they would have it.

He sputtered and stuttered and never did answer. He eventually got his act together and said I would be put on a waiting list. Right.

That was over three months ago. Think I'll call again today. Any bets on whether or not I'll get an answer... or even someone to speak with???
