I had recently seen an SP89 for sale, but it was somewhat different from the standard model:
It had a longer barrel( about 3 inches longer) and a different forearm -made out of black plastic and shaped more like a rifle forearm. All the marking were standard SP89 markings.
I would like to know if this is a factory variant or an after market modification.Thank you.

I am pretty certain that is a modification of the SP-89 as there were no variations of it. It was quite often "stretched" by aftermarket smiths but that is not to say the work is bad. There are a lot of very good HK smiths that do that type of work. There was a recent post about this very topic if you look back a few pages.
Here is the link. (http://hkpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85736&highlight=SP-89)

Do a search on "SP-89" and you will turn up quite a few threads, many having to do with modifications.

Thank you so much...
The gun looks exactly like the one pictured in the tread you provided, except without any flaws - looks new. does the modification add a premium to the gun or does it actually detract?
Thanks.
