so I hit the range yesterday, and shot my new usp 40 tac, when I gave it to the girlfriend to shoot she liked it more than the usp9sd.

she didnt like the recoil on the 40, but she liked the fact that the 40 ejected to the right, and it seems that in her hands the 9 ejects straight back. most empties on the 9 hit her in the head, or make it down her shirt.

so I guess my I will ask the pros here, is there any way to 'tune' the ejector on the usp9sd to aim where I want the empties to go? so the ejection pattern closely resembles the 40?

thanks for any help

My first guess is that she is gripping the .40 harder and locking her wrists better. Knowing the .40 is a heavier recoiling round, maybe subconsciously she is gripping it properly vs the 9mm which she may be limp wristing slightly.

Unless you can verify that this isn't the case, I don't know. I'd think that ypou'd need one of HKs armorors to look at it.

You can't really do anything with the ejector since that is molded into the frame.

Get her to hold the gun higher up on the frame. People with "limp wristing" problems usually hold the gun low. By going to a high grip, you eliminate that problem without trying to lock the wrist which causes othe problems to develop.

i've tried to mimmick the ejection, and I can get it to eject almost the same in my hands when I dont have a firm hold on the gun.

I tried to trick her by switching between the .40 and the 9 and not telling her which one she was shooting, and every time the 9 would eject right into her. although the 9 would eject slightly more right just after shooting the .40, still hitting her in the arm rather than right in the face.

even in my hands, the .40 ejects to the side, and the 9 ejects more towards me or straight back, but I can only get the empties to hit me when I hold it very loose.

That's unfortunate. Perhaps a call to HK would be in order. Find out what they think of the situation. Explain that it does the same thing to multiple shooters regardless of grip and experience.

A USP is not a 1911 - it does not require "fine tuning" in order to eject properly. If it's ejecting brass straight back, it can only mean one of two things: (1) a part is broken or (b) you are shooting underpowered ammo.

Are you using WWB or Winclean by any chance? They were having problems with their 9mm ammo, which was severely underpowered and was causing precisely the problem you described in my USP (which has never had issues of any kind up to that point).

The only time I ever had any problems with my USP was when I got

Was this all with one brand of ammo?

Maybe try something else and see if that helps.

I'd do that before messing with the gun.
