My office and staff have over time started catching on that I am sort of a gun nut. So after loads of begging, etc... I finally gave in a took a few of my employees out to the range with me. Funny what peoples impressions are. I took along with us an HK45, HK45c, USPCT, Mark23, P30, Wilson Combat Stealth, Sig P220, and a suppressor.

People loved shooting the 1911, but said it was really heavy (even though officers frame.) But they said, can't we make this trigger pull longer or harder? it is too light and easy. Then one of them grabbed another one and was saying 'WOW, this thing is soooo light, and is such a good size for me. (This guy is 6' and thin) I look over and he is holding my Mark 23!!! I really got a kick out of that. I know that gun isn't "light", but it does tend to feel lighter than it looks. =) All in all they had a good time, but all of them tended to shoot low and left. Hard to get people out of that one with the HK's.

Only real disappointment was the suppressor not allowing my USPCT to cycle even once. It is a gemtech blackside and I thought it was supposed to be perfect for that gun. Probably not powerful enough practice ammo I would guess. I also, have no clue what maintenance should be for that thing. Had some icky stringy stuff in it after I should my first round through it. But being my first time ever shooting a silencer, I didn't have any idea what to expect.

Anyway, word got around, and the whole office wants to get their chance to go, and many are now signing up for CCW classes. We will be the best protected IT guys you would ever want to meet! =)

Your co-workers probably have no idea what kind of a treat they got to shoot such a collection.

Exactly. I take new people any time I can. My favorite is seeing the silly grin on someones face the first time they shoot an MP5.

Yes, but there are lots of people that have no idea what "MP5" means. At the range, everyone thinks they are the coolest thing they've ever seen, but there are two different types of people - the ones that say "Wow, an MP5" and those that say "Wow, that's cool. What is it?" And then there are some that when I say it's an MP5, say "Wow, I thought so." and some that say "MP5? Is that the company that makes them?"

We have a lot of guys working for us now, and going to the range will probably be a decent group activity. Everyone works so hard and it can be stressful at times. I find nothing better than "poking holes in paper from a long ways away" to take the edge off of a stressful and busy day. =) Range time is more fun in groups as well I think.

What I love more than anything is when military guys are there, and I get to introduce them to the HK45. they go absolutley nutts and shoot it amazingly well on their first attempts. I really hope we get those out to our men in the sand sometime soon. I have yet to run into a military guy back from IRAQ who didn't think that my HK45 was the best war-ready handgun that they had fired (including the HK45c) and I feel crappy that I can go out to the store and buy one, and they cannot use it for its proper purpose.

What is even better than that, is when the Army boys first see the Mark Twenty-Three... =)

That thing can put a smile on ANYONE's face.

I got into shooting because a friend took me to a range back in college. Kudos to you for helping others open their eyes.

Sobriquet... I gotta say, you are a great member out here and contribute a ton, but you really need some more HK's to your name. =)

I would suggest (if you don't mind) a USP 45 Tactical. Would give you the best of the USP series experiance with 12 rounds and a trigger even better than your HK45. Plus it just looks really cool. That would be a great addition to your HK collection. I have been thinking about picking up a second one just for the heck of it, they are really amazing guns.

2 HKs isn't so bad for 6 months, is it? For what I paid for the P7M8, I should have gotten two! lol

Alas, I can't buy a USP Tactical here. It has mags over 10 rounds and has the dreaded "evil" threaded barrel. According to the State of California, if I had the ability to use a silencer, I'd go all ninja on a rampage.

I would say it's much better than "not bad" considering you scored such a great example of HK...

I agree as well, was just thinking of a third that will fit right in... forgot about the SoCal thing... HK45 is perfect for that.

HK45's aren't normally legal for sale here, either. lol. California has many joys.. firearms are just low on the list.

As others have said, good for you for introducing more folks to shooting. They really have no idea on how lucky they were to have such nice pistols to shoot!

Sounds like you had a great time at the range, and introduced some people to the sport of shooting - keep taking the newbies to the range! :)

I just want to say, being new to the handgun world myself, I wish that I had been exposed at a younger age to someone of your likeness. The willingness to expose newbies to these great arms and terrific sport is commendable. It appears that we share the same feelings with regards to the folks in uniform. I only wish that we could give them the desired tools and the liberties to do their jobs to the fullest of their abilities. Thanks for being a good ambassador.

The Mark 23,

You know the first time I picked it up I said the same thing, "man this is way lighter than it looks."

Gee, then the Joe's over there would get to miss out on the quality time doing in depth weapons maintenance after every mission. Granted, it does pass the time though.

Great job teaching your co-workers about guns - what a treat to shoot such a fine collection.
I teach all my patients about guns and have gotten a few very anti-gun people to re-evaluate their position. A few now have their CCW.
Heres to keeping our sport alive, our friends alive and the 2nd amendment alive...

Like everyone else said, good job for introducing some new people. Seems like less and less are being introduced to firearms by parents anymore. Getting out there and introducing people who normally wouldn't have had the chance to try something like this, will be good for out sport in the long run.
