Does anyone have experience with the Robar NP3 finish? I am considering having the bolt on my AR15 and on my PTR91 finished with it, but it is pricey and I wanted to get some opinions on the stuff.

I have a SW5 bolt carrier assembly that has an NP3 finish. A simple easy rub with a shop rag will remove all traces of carbon. Or a dunk in my wash tank and hit it with a brush... totally clean. Either way, simple maintenence.

They have a deal for the AR check it out.

Thanks for the input on this stuff. My AR usually sits in the trunk when I'm at work, and the PTR usually sits in the safe. I think I'll give it a shot on the AR bolt to start with and see how I like it.

Np3 dominates all finishes. you would be doing yourself and your gun a huge favor by having it applied

i had my entire desert eagle coated in Np3 including internals. it cut maintenance time down 50 percent, reliability went thru the roof, and the gun was overall more enjoyable to operate. its like a miracle finish :P

Great stuff. I have a pistol that received their "Norton Special" which is the upper internals and a Mag and it is awesome! Clean up is a joke and it looks practically new even after 4-5 years! Go for it!
I choked at the $135 dollar price tag for an AR BCG to be NP3'D. But after shooting matches all day it might be worth it to speed up the clean up!

I have been toying with doing my P7 in it. MMMmmm here come the ideas again!

Alright, I packed up my BCG and a slide/barrel from an XD and I'm sending them off to Robar tomorrow. I'm gonna wait on the bolt for my PTR since I shoot that gun the least right now...ammo prices suck... but if the stuff is as good as you all think, then I'll be sending that next.

desert eagles by nature are finnicky guns. so after 5,000 rounds thru mine since the finish applied (and 0 failures afterward) i dont have to think! i know! :)

you are going to love it...

might as well get the next batch ready to send out

MP5/40 I had receiver/cocking tube, & carrier done. I can tell when I clean the bolt since I have to scrape it clean. Everything else wipes away without scraping.

I can drive over to Robar and drop things off on my lunch break. Who wants to touch me???:350:

All items were packed and shipped today!!! Now I'll just have to wait for 3-6 weeks to get them back to see how I like this stuff. Looking at all the comments I think that I may be selling some of my toys in order to get some of my more high value items finished with Robar...anyone want a Tec9 or a SL8????

One of my AR15s uses a Robar NP3'd bolt and carrier. Talk about slick. I can clean the BCG with a cotton ball. :D

Thanks for the picture, looks awesome. I think I should've just sent the bolt from my PTR91 with the rest of the stuff... Now I kinda want to send my duty handgun in to get it done as well.

+1

my AR is still waiting to be cleaned after 500 rounds. Still shoots fine but I just hate to clean the SOB and my AK for that matter...

My first run SW5 has an NP3'ed bolt carrier group. Very easy cleanup.

How does it take abuse? Has the finish worn off any? I know it's suppose to be bonded at the molecular level, but just wanted to hear first hand exprience.

Still bright and shiny... still just wipes off and I DO abuse the hell out of it. It does have over 100K rounds through it. I've been doing mag dumps (and Betas) since I got it back in oh, I dunno... '96-97... somewhere back then?

That was my only concern, since the NP3 treatment isn't cheap. Your "abuse" looks like a good testament to how good the finish stays put. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

I will say that the NP3 finish was well worth the wait (6 weeks). The BCG in my AR is very easy to clean and it shows no signs of wear on it after a few hundred rounds. I am going to be sending in my duty gun (Sig 226) and my PTR bolt to have the finish done on them when I have some extra cash. The stuff is expensive and the wait is long, but NP3 seems worth it.

Well, the timing is right... not too much shootin' being done this time o' year. Far better to do it now than get the heebie-jeebies in the Spring and start sending bribes off to get it done quicker.

Well the one upside to living in California is that we have nice weather most of the time, but getting guns and gun parts sucks here.

The one downside of having nice weather all the time means when you HAVE to send something out, you don't have it.

Sometimes bad weather is good. If it really sucks outside, you don't really care about going shooting. These are the times we WORK on them, refinish them, work on the hot rods, murdercycles, etc.

Good point about the weather, but I gotta stay positive about something here in Ca since the gun laws are so restrictive. Try this one, I just paid $235 bucks for a stripped DSA ZM4 receiver...$25 DROS fee $60 DOJ AW reg fee and I have to send DOJ another $20 bucks when I send them my reg card.. For the $105 extra dollars I spend to get a stripped receiver in most states I could just buy another receiver. I know that I shouldn't complain though as most people in CA can't even get "evil rifles" anymore.

After reading these reviews on the NP3 finish is there any reason not to have this done? It wouldn't devalue an original HK gun would it (am I being crazy here)? Was thinking about sending my MP5 bolt carrier/group in for it.

If you want it spray black, on top of the NP3, then I'd send it to Robar or someone reputable.
Some don't coat it well, therefore the finish (black) doesn't hold good.

Is this stuff sprayed on or applied electro-chemically? I'd like to get it applied only to the inside of the receiver.

PM if you'd like details.

I don't think he's talking about the outside receiver paint. Everything I have had NP3'ed has come back a bright silver. Easier to see the crud when cleaning it with a simple shop rag and Hoppes. All the carbon does wipe off just that easy, too.

It was an FYI. Apparently it wasn't as clear as I thought.

NP3 is a dip. Above I referred to having it finished/spray (in case you don't want a silver receiver).

Shattered is right here. I only meant to send in the bolt head/group. BTW, would you recommend doing the complete group in NP3 or just the head? There is no down side to this is there?

Glock35

I must have stopped reading at "MP5" therefore not seeing the "bolt group".
Down/upside would be the typical gains of using NP3. Why not do the LP & Carrier too.

There should be pictures of my carrier somewhere on the forum.
