I seem to be having some issues with my new piece. I will try to explain as best I can. The issue: When I chamber a round the slide will hesitate on the release. This does not happen all the time. Thinking it was the ammo I tried several others such as WWB, Federal Premium, and MagSafe to name a few. By hesitating I mean that when I release the slide rather than chambering a round cleanly and smooth like my full size 45 does, the my compact one will hesitate. Now I must admit that it is new and has not been broken in yet (I've only fired about 5 rounds through it) but I did clean the factory grease off of it and applied lube as the manual states but it still seems to hesitate at random. Any thoughts?

How are you chambering the round? Are you racking the slide, releasing it forward with your hand from the locked back position, dropping the slide lock?

Yes that's exactly how I do it. And to test Ill rack the slide until all rounds have been ejected, drop the mag and fill it back up then drop the slide lock. I racked the slides slowly and manually to try and see what the issue was and it seems to hesitate when the round is not even half way up the (is it breech?) not sure what it's called but the part that guides the round into the chamber - I doubt it's that though because it's lubed as well.

A weak mag spring can cause the round in the magazine to nose down when chambering...same is true with anything that might effect mag follower travel.

I'll try the magazine from the full size version since they are interchangable. I'll let you know how that works out.

I would but I don't think my boss would like that very much.. Then I'll have to get my wife to bail me out of jail.. I think I'll wait till I get home :)

The dynamics of the cycle of operation are not the same when hand cycling as when the pistol is fired, and they certainly change if it is hand cycled 'slowly'. Shoot it with some good quality factory FMJ for at least a couple of hundred rounds and finish up with maybe 50 or so of what you want to carry or keep in the gun. My guess is that will be the end of the issue...if not, and it bothers you, send it back to H&K.

I took it to a gun smith today and he said almost exactly what you did. I only noticed the difference because I keep the full size next to my bed and when the dog barks (outside dog) I chamber a round 'slowly' to not wake up my 6 week old infant. It never 'hesitates' using Federal Hydrashocks.

As far as a week spring, I tested the same rounds using the fullsize mag on the compact and on some rounds it would hesitate so I don't think it's the spring.

Perhaps I have to break it in, unfortunately the closest range is 90 minutes away... so that will have to wait.

Thanks for the input fellas.

sounds like you shouldn't ride the slide.
