This is petty I know, but I must ask you guys. Have you ever purchased a pistol from a dealer and when they went to put your brand new, never fired pistol in its "original" box, you find out that its a box for a completely different HK pistol model!?!?!
Well that's what happened to me when I purchased my HK45 earlier this year. When I told the guy that the box was for a completely different HK pistol and not my HK45, he said HK goofed and didn't give him the original box. The only reason I choose to go ahead and purchase the pistol was because of the pistol was indeed new, and it had all manuals and tools as well as the test round from the factory. So the only thing that was missing was the original box.
I know not a big deal, but do you think its possible to contact HK and see if they could send me a box for it with the correct serial numbers?
Apologize for such a dumb question:20000000:

That does not happen and he gave your box to someone else or he is just too lasy to find yours.
So go back to the guy and tell him to get off his *$$ and find the right box or give him back the gun.
If you ever want to sell the gun again and have not the box, the buyer is likely to give you less for the gun!

I can tell you there has been a few guns I was on the fence about buying and when I found out it was just the gun and nothing else I passed on them.

That sounds pretty sketchy. All of my HK boxes have a barcode on the sticker that says what pistol it is, and the name of the pistol is screened onto the box. I'm pretty sure the box is scanned when it leaves HK and goes to the dealer, so it is very unlikely the wrong pistol would be put into it.

When I bought my usp new, they tried doing the same thing to me and I refused the purchase until I got the original box. He found it 5 minutes later.

Sounds very fishy to me, I used to work in a gun store years ago and I never saw a new gun not come in with the right box.

hope you got a good deal. it definitely reduces the resale value.

I want to thank you all for your feedback to my question. After reading all your responses, I am very disappointed in this dealer. I remember them looking for the box for a good 10min before giving me the wrong box and saying that HK goofed on the box, which I didn't believe. I think what may of happened was he gave my box to someone else by mistake. I will try to contact him for the heck of it and see if maybe he has found it. It's a good thing I don't plan on reselling this pistol, but still would be nice to have the original box :( I purchased the HK45 for $930. I paid cash and I don't even think he gave me a receipt.
It is kind of a shock because this guy is one of the largest dealers in Virginia for full autos and class 3 firearms. I remember seeing one of many HK rifles with him for sale, and an MP5 going for $19,000. In the end, it is my fault, i should not have purchased the pistol from him without the original box. Lesson learned.

Well as for the box... thats not right IMO, but the reciept to me would kinda be a big thing... and not hard to to on his part to ring up the purchase. That seems even more shady. Alot of times companies want the reciept if they are going to do warranty work, HK is known for not being that picky... but if they were you could run into more problems.... I might be over thinking the reciept thing, but these are just my opinions

It would have been nice to have the original box, but unless the pistol is unfired with all paperwork in the box I don't think it will affect the resale value somewhere down the road to a great degree. Besides, it doesn't sound like you bought it as an investment. You bought it to use. No receipt on the other hand is just plain sloppy on the part of your dealer. I keep all my firearm receipts for insurance purposes. If you've registered your HK45 with the company you won't need a receipt for warranty work. Enjoy your pistol and find another dealer to work with in the future, at least that's what I would do.

and no reciept? and this guy has his ffl? unbelievable. if you keep the pistol, get a reciept if you still can, with the ser# and model clearly stated. then again, sounds like you have an untraceable (to you) firearm. the whole thing reeks.

Thats what I was thinking too. Theres also a chance that the dealer could report the gun stolen and say it was you, and since you have no receipt that could make it difficult to explain. Go back and get the reciept of sale or return the gun for the money back. Because otherwise he could potentially get the gun back and keep the money, which is cash. And unless he deposited it, there is no record that you gave it to him. This thing gets shadier the more I think about it.
In my experience, gun dealers are either awful or amazing. Its just tough to tell until you try them out.

I doubt the dealer is going to do that, especially if he's one of the big dealers here in VA.
I know some businesses who will skip the sales tax if you pay cash. It would make sense that they skip on the receipt then as well.

when I buy, whether from an individual or ffl, I get a reciept even if they don't want a copy. If the # is ever run (like when he trades/sells it or any other reason, even factory repair) and it comes back hot I guarantee this dealer will have no idea what you're talking about as the cuffs are put on you.

I believe he did not charge me tax. When I went to pay for it i pulled my card out and he said if I were to pay cash he would give me a better deal. So I paid half cash, and half on the card. He did print me out a credit card receipt, but there is no serial number on it for the gun. I do remember waiting a good 15min for them to try and find the correct box. After not being able to locate it, The owner blamed HK for shipping him it in the wrong box! THERE IS NO WAY a company like HK would do such a thing. I just don't see that.
I contacted HK and left a message. We will see what they recommend me to do.

I've had a big dealer in VA try the same thing on me. After looking for the proper box for my new HK, and saying they couldn't find it, I said no thanks. A few minutes later it was found!!!!!Looked like a train had run over it, wouldn't even stay closed. Good try, but no sale!

Same with the one they gave me, it was broken and wouldn't even close. By any chance, is this dealer that you speak of located in Fredericksburg, VA? I purchased it from them when they were at the Expo Center show.

It would do the rest of us Virginians a favor if you would share the name of this dealer. He is lacking in honesty, to say the least. Who is it?

If I was buying a brand new gun and they didn't have the original box I'd at least ask for a discount. Receipt is a must.

I would be very happy for others not to be in this situation. Here is his website:

I am communicating with them through email to solve the problem. I will let you all know how it goes.
I didn't pay for it until they looked for the box and couldn't find it. two employees were searching for it and could not find it. I mean it was a booth maybe only 300 square feet, so there wasn't much to look for.
