View Full Version : Last round is painful/annoying?

Well I finally got around to getting my first new(to me, less than 50 thru it) USP45 Tactical. I like it, its definitely a handful compared to my other compact models, and glocks and such, also my first pistol in .45. Anyway, consistently, the last round's case will hit me right in the face. I assume I'm doing something wrong, so what is it? How do I correct this annoyance?
Note the first eleven cases eject properly.

What brand of ammo are you using? Also, is this an unused mag. and how old is it.
I know you will love this gun. It is amazingly accurate, at least to me.

Yes, very accurate. Just this one pesky problem. Ammo is cheap. Speer Lawman. Like I said, gun is new, far as I can tell, 2006 date code, one mag appeared unused until this morning, the other in like new condition, as was the gun.

Just the last round is ejecting funny? The rest are ejecting normally(to the right of the shooter?
Not making fun just trying to understand. Have you been able to try any mags other than the 2 that came with the gun? Sounds like it may be something with the mag follower getting in the way, or maybe something with the slide lock? Just me thinking out loud, some of the gurus on this sight may have an idea on how to correct the issue.

The 2 main factors most likely to be involved are:

1. Lack of firmness and low-on-the-grip placement of your grip-hand (otherwise known as 'limpwristing")

2. Your near-new, extra heavy, military recoil-spring needs some time to break-in and soften up a bit.

Work on your grip, and give it time to break-in a bit. :)

Good luck with it!

I had that issue with my USP Tactical also. It wasn't just on the last round of the mag, it happens randomly and with differnt ammo. I never got to the bottom of the issue, I sold it and got a HK45, which if you can belive it is an even better gun than the tactical!

Sounds like your last round is falling off the extractor.
The previous rounds are "helped" into the correct position by the round beneath.
The first thing I would do is tune and adjust the extractor; a simple procedure.

this quote was a diagnosis for a 1911... same problem?

I had the same issue with my USP9 SD. Believe it or not I actually had a round eject into my face and fall between my shooting glasses and face then rest on my cheek burning the hell out of me while trying to safely clear the weapon at a public range that was crowded. This happened while shooting 115gr cheap ass ammo. The weapon never has problems with heavier grain rounds. It actually stovepiped about 20 of the first 100 rounds with the cheap stuff. I now have 306 rounds through the weapon, and it no longer stovepipes or puts brass in my face. It is smoother feeling, and I attribute this to the fact that it was a brand new weapon when I got it. I have shot 1911's and Glocks most of my life. The HK is a great weapon, but it definately shoots like no other pistol I have ever owned or fired. The guy's above this post are right though. You absolutely can not limp wrist an HK, and if you are going to shoot cheap ammo you will just have to deal with it short stroking ejected rounds until you really break the weapon in.

I will just suggest what has worked for me on other HKs. If the magazine is unused or just used by you recently, load it and allow to sit a couple of days. I didn't believe this when I had a problem with my .45c failing to feed with random rounds towards the bottom of the magazine. It cured the problem. Also with my new P30 the casings came back on my head. I was advised to use some Fiocchi or something a little "hotter" for the first two hundred rounds or so. Then the gun ejected as it should instead of on my cap bill. Any brand works now. Blazer only spits out a little ways but Federal ejects much further. WWB is fine now too.
