A dept. that I'm finishing a process in has no restrictions on the firearm choice for their reserves. So, I pretty much get to pick what I want for a duty weapon. I have a HK p2000sk that I'll probably be selling soon (in 9mm), but the quality is so great, I think I'd like to go HK with my duty weapon. Anything mid to fullsize in .45acp would be fantastic. Any suggestions for anything decently priced? By that, I mean under $1,000?

P2000 in .40SW isn't too bad, with 9 round capacity. If you want to use .357SIG you can get 12 rounds in that gun. Maybe an HK45f or USP .45f would be good too. The USP holds more rounds (12 vs 10), but the HK45 is much more ergonomic with a standard rail system that would work with tac lights if you use them. The USP requires an adapter.
All of these would be under $1000 if you order online

Ah, so the USP requires adapter use, eh? Anybody have problems with the picatinny rails getting caught on stuff and do they fit most accessories? Right now, I'm using my newer beretta 92fs, which I love. I'd just like to move up in caliber. I don't like glocks except for maybe a good backup weapon. I like stuff that points a lot better than a glock. Any reliability problems with the hk45s? Mag capacity doesn't bother me too much seeing as I'll be carrying 3 on me anyway.
I do like the LEM trigger, but the dept. would probably like a model with a safety/decocker for duty use. So, I'm thinking DA/SA. The downside from moving from a beretta to a model with a different safety operation is retraining the motor skills.

I used a 45 USP full-size for a while. Was going to switch to the HK45 because it fit my hand a little better. I wanted either a Safariland 6280, or a Blackhawk SERPA holster, and neither one is available for the HK45.
Blackhawk does make one for the P-30, which I had to back order, and the day the holster came in was the day I had to qualify on my department issued M&P. I was part-time for a while, and it was BYOG, a full-time slot opened, and I had to carry the "issue." I REALLY miss the oversize mag release!

Before you go out and buy or trade for something..find out what type of trigger you can have....Of course the USP, P2000, and HK45 are all good pistols. Depending how big/small your hands are, I'd consider a USPC-assuming you don't have allot of cash for a bunch of pistols, this way you would have something for both in uniform and out. Besides HK, I'd also consider a Sig 220R DAK.

I'd say either an HK45 or a USP full size in 9mm if you want the extra capacity. The HK45 doesn't need an adapter for a light and if you do a search, you'll see some info on duty holsters that fit it with a light. I think it was a Safariland meant for a Glock.

I carry a HK45 with an X200 light, in plainclothes or uniform depending on the day.
No, it's not hard to conceal it with the right gear. I'm using Raven Concealment Systems right now for plainclothes, and it's good stuff. For uniformed carry, Safariland is the way to go.

I carry an HK45LEM with an X300 in a Safariland 6280 made for the Glock 21 on Duty.
The holster fits like it was made for the HK45. I highly recommend the HK45, I much
prefer its ergonomics to the USP.

I would suggest a USP with LEM in either .40 or .45 caliber.

These are all great suggestions, guys. And yes, having a light on the weapon is preferable. I didn't know some of the glock holsters fit the HKs so well. I love safariland stuff and prefer to go that route. I like the raptor design, but am willing to try others too if needed. I much prefer the .45 for me. I've seen what a 9mm can do IF it overpenetrates and I don't want that. :) I don't want to start a caliber war, but I much prefer the .45 over a .40 by shooting preference. I can shoot 9mm and .45s well, so I stick to that. :D

I'd go with a USP 45 with an M2 light attached to her. I think Safariland makes a holster with the original M2 light attached to a USP. At least with the M2 you wouldn't need an adapter to mount it.

I had the USPf .45 w/ M2 setup for a short time. Worked great, but switched to a nylon duty belt setup. I have the Safariland basket weave 6280 holster for sale here if you go this route...

Well, you can't beat that kind of reasoning. Carry what fits your hand and what you shoot well and you're ahead of the pack already.

i freakin agree! no sense others telling you what they like, the features which they appreciate, etc when it's your hand, your eyeballs, your natural grip angle, your egonomic needs.....and which pistol you shoot best with, which should determine your pistol selection.
Air Jordans may be the cat's meow and best seller, but if your feet naturally overpronate or some such, the AJs could be your worst choice.
Select the pistol which, after thorough sample testing, is best suited for your neuro muscular needs.

if there is no restrictions how often can you switch your duty weapon? why not buy both guns and then you can carry both.

I have to check. I think off duty for reserves may be up in the air. I have to qualify with ONE weapon and I think it stays that way. I'm testing out some diff. pistol designs and seeing what sights more quickly and is comfortable in my hand. So far, HKs, berettas, and 1911s pretty much are what I like. I'm selling what I don't want. I have to check with the dept if they require a safety in an off duty weapon, if not, I may keep the p2000sk.

I would look into the P2000 in .40sw or .357sig.
If you want a .45, then the HK45 and USP45 would really be the only options for a duty gun.
I would go with a USP 40 tactical.

You should go to a range that rents out the type of pistols you might be interested in. Since you are LEO, this will be a pistol you will be trusting your life too. Any HK will serve you well. Get what works for YOU, not some stranger on the internet.

I carry a P2000 .40 in LEM on duty and a P2000SK .40 LEM for off duty and non-uniform carry. What's keeping you from keeping your SK and getting a P2000 in 9MM? It would simplify your practice and training.
