Can anybody elaborate on what a match trigger is/does. Does it take the free floating slack out of the trigger when cocked in DA? All of the slack, like a cocked revolver? and do you put it on a sa/da or lem also. I have a p2000 .357 v3 and am picking up my new p2000 9mm LEM in two days, just thinking of possible changes.

The match trigger can only be put in the full size USP, not the Compact or the P2K.
No, the match trigger does not remove the take up on the trigger in DA. It does provide for a smoother pull, a slightly lighter pull with absolutely no creep (which is different from take up) and almost no over travel. The OT screw is the only user adjustable part.
The match trigger can be combined with the LEM trigger in what HK calls the Combat Competition where it uses the match trigger but the LEM hammer and other internals.

Big Bore. What is your opinion on a match trigger vs. a trigger job done by a good smith like Bill Springfield. If you where purchasing a p30L, would you wait for the match trigger or get it and send it off to Bill. Which do you think would yield better trigger results. Lets keep the $ factor out of the equation and only focus on the end result. Also let's not factor in the HK wait time on the match trigger. Also if anyone else has an opinion on this then please share. Thanks.

My honest opinion is that my trigger work on the P30 comes out better than the match trigger on my USP .45 Expert. Though it doesn't have the overtravel adjustment, it does come out lighter and smoother and similar SA creep reduction. Can't beat the price, about 60% less than a match kit.

Thanks Bill. Sounds great. Just the info I was looking for.

Hey Nice HK
I had trigger work done to my HK USP 45 twice by a very well known gunsmith and the same thing occurred both times. The action came back fine but in time (not too long) the action began to get sticky. The problem was that the corrosion protection that HK puts on all the internal pieces of their guns was polished off and small amounts of corrosion begin to hinder the action. I finally got fed up with the trigger and sent it to HK. Travis replaced every part that had been modified and installed the match trigger with the LEM conversion kit in my pistol. The action is very very smooth and crisp with no creep at all and it will not corrode since the protective finish is on all parts. It is not a 3.5lb 1911 trigger, but this pistol does more than go to the range, it is a carry weapon also. The LEM/Match trigger combination is incredibly easy to get used to also, one range visit and I can shoot it better than I ever could before. I just want to state that I have no experience with the trigger work of Bill Springfield who seems to be a favorite on this site, and maybe he applies a protective finish to the parts that he polishes or maybe he doesn't have to polish any parts. Hope this helps you out. Love the Match Trigger/LEM.

I am very eager to try out the Hybrid LEM trigger out. I fear it's going to take eons for HK to make it available for the p30 platform. I would love a P30L with the Hybrid LEM trigger. Hint hint HK.

My best guess to the rust problem is that it was assembled completely dry and the guy lives in a very humid area. There are non coated areas on a stock USP hammer, even coated/blued parts eventually wear with shooting. I have never seen any rust on any USP trigger part that has come in or heard of any complaints on completed units. Properly greased/oiled there should be no issues.

Hi Bill - can I PM you on a USP9 trigger tune-up? Would your creep reduction efforts benefit from such parts included in the HK match trigger parts kit by chance?

Hey Bill,

After every shooting session my USP was meticulously cleaned and lubed (probably a little over lubed in the sear/hammer areas. It didn't matter if I shot 20 rounds or 200 rounds it was cleaned and lubed. Until I had Travis replace all the parts and convert it to LEM my USP was my night stand gun in a temperature controlled house, it was not a carry piece. Now I love it so much that it is my CCW when I can carry. I was using Breakfree products but now I will take Travis' advice and use Sentry Solutions products in my USP. I don't know why this happened to my pistol but it did. None of my other pistols (whether they had trigger work done on them or not) have had this problem, but the USP did. A small list of them include, Beretta Cougar 40, Beretta PX4 Storm 40, Ruger Redhawk 44mag, and about 10 or so rifles and an Ithica model 37 police shotgun. That tells me that it is not the environment that the guns are kept in that is causing the problem. I appreciate your input on this but I have all the parts still sitting in the plastic bag that Travis put them in if you would like some pics.
