Folks, may I ask what is the golden Philipps screw embedded in my USP9 Standard? It was there for no apparent purpose, but it does not affect function. Sorry for the quality of the picture.

Uhh... It's an aerial view of a battle ship circa 1945.... No wait, it's abstract art....:p Sorry, it's just so darn blurry.
Seriously though does anyone know why this guy has an extra part in his USP?
Chris,
Can you take a clearer photo of the screw? If we can see it we could reason something out :D .

I still have limited experience on the use of a digital camera, my apologies. I cannot focus it properly. Can someone give me advise what is the proper lighting and focus to have a clearer picture?

There is an option/button( look in your manual) that either has a frame of pic on the button or ISO feature that will sharpen that pic right up for you.
on your digital camera there is a button with a little flower image, push that button until the flower apears on the veiw finder or the lcd screen, then you should be in macro mode, it will focus on close up images and be much clearer ,I think

The gun is model KK and has fired in excess of 20,000 rounds. Is the screw embedded there for what purpose?
I bought it new and pick up by mid-2000 from Tri-Mark, Inc (HK Philippines) which closed shop just few years ago.

just wait til you find the embedded microchip. it actually transmits data to satellites and can pinpoint your exact location within +/- 3yd
..ok just kidding. well, half kidding..

Ulose2 & 8472: Thanks for helping to use my digital cam better.
SFL8AX4: You may be quite right. My USP9 grip feels fatter and somehow not proportionately size as compared to the USP9 Standard with AE marking I got hold in a gun shop last year. Is my USP9 "considered" a factory reject?

Chris, My USP9 is an AG date code. I dont have that screw or even a indention were it could appear for one to be. I would PM Big Bore or Aviator Dave for further identification. I have not heard of HK selling seconds, however there my be an explanation for it.

I have no idea what that screw is but I can almost assure you, HK did not put it there. It looks like some kind of repair to me where some of the frame was broken out then repaired with a brass screw and some kind of Accra-Glass agent. If it works I would not worry too much about it but if it were mine and it were a duty or carry pistol I would send the pistol to HK for evaluation. At worst they will replace the frame, serial numbers will no longer match, and you will be out about $150+-. Still, IMO that would be a small price to pay if the weapon is a serious use weapon.

SIGtarian: No intent to offend HK, but being in a third world country, we are all got used to downgraded goods from other countries. Downgraded cars, dry goods, clothes, etc even from reputable/authorized vendors. I bought the gun from a vendor claimed to have direct links from H&K Oberndorf, Germany/UK. Giving me a slightly damage product came as to no surpirse to me. Besides I bought it when Glock 17 and 19 are higher by around P10,000 ($200- more or less). It arrived to me around 9 months later after I made a downpayment.
Big Bore: Thanks for your input. You are right that no reason to worry. I fired the gun in excess of 20,000 rounds and some of them are beyond what is stated on Vihtavuori Reloading Manual. Perhaps this gun must retire to my closet and only use for occassional range session... and buy new H&K's with more discriminating mindset.
Ulose2: My KK-model grip felt fatter and shorter than one I got hold in a gunshop, reason why I assume mine is a factory "overrun" or "reject".

I'm sorry... I couldn't get over the shock from the part where you said a Glock was $200 more than the HK. lol

Seems strange, but its true... it happened way back July 1999 at a gun show of SM Mega Mall, here in Metro Manila. In fact at that time I am already arranging for the order of Glock 17 when I learn the attractive price set my Trimark. One sales rep even mentioned that the prices of their products were even dictated by their German counterparts, true or not, I was unable to confirm that statement with the owner/president of the company.
Kinda hard to tell from the photo
