After killing a bunch of paper at the range today, I followed my usual routine of wandering around the candy store to see what's new.
While cruising the 9MM section, I thought I saw an HK45 in there, but the trigger guard looked odd. On closer inspection, it turned out to be a P30L. Having never seen one, I of course had to maul it for awhile. It looks like the P30's dad. The most obvious thing is that the L model is easily as large as the HK45. The usual grip comfort was there, and the balance was great. I'd bet that with a full mag, this gun would feel nearly perfect. It's obviously a duty or range gun, and less conducive for CCW. Retail at my candy store is $890.00.
I also handled a MK23 for the first time. Pictures don't do this gun justice. It was more a piece of artillery than a hand gun. This is one big honkin' HK. I thought the controls were a little too small to be effective for a fighting gun. The impression I had overall was that if you ran out of ammo with this thing, it would make one hell of a boomerang. I'll bet the Aussies love this gun.
