This week while running our Fall "Tactical" shoot (training session for us where we focus on shooting in a format other than qualification shooting (lots of shooting while moving and rifle to handgun transitions etc.... also other types of "uncommon" positions to shoot from, like from inside a car etc...), I let one of my co-workers shoot my HK45. Today, he called me and wanted to know where he could buy one... His first comment was, the HK45 shot smoother and softer than any .45 he had ever shot. This guy has 3 or 4 Kimbers, and swears by his Kimber Gold Match, but said for a service pistol, the HK45 put his 1911's to shame.... I'm not much of a 1911 shooter, so I'll take his word for it.

Anyway, sounds like he will be picking up an HK45 this week......

Looks like you have plenty of other HK's to get your friend fully converted!

I've been mulling around the idea of purchasing the HK45. How does it compare in size to your 45 Tac?

for me, it shoots better than the Tac. The grip is slimmer (main prob I have with my Tac) and the bore axis is a bit lower... Just those two factors alone allow me to shoot it faster and more accurately. The HK45 is a very soft shooting .45.. The Tac, is physically every bit as accurate, if not more, as the HK45, I can just shoot the HK45 better personally.... I also like the control lever better. I carry my HK45 condition 1 (cocked & locked), which is difficult for me to do with my Tac, since to me the control lever is not as accessable...

So, over all it is slightly smaller than the Tac...

His problem is that he's shooting Kimbers. LEOs who like 1911s is the reason STI makes the Tactical 5.0. I think it says something when the Danish Army Special Forces are buying guns from a small company making 1911s in Texas. Of course, it'll run him $1,730 street price, but as an STI it's accurate enough to win any PPC Competition and the standard mag will hold 12 rounds of .45 (and there are factory extended mags to hold 14).

IIRC STI will still do aluminum Tacticals by special order even though they no longer put them on their website (in fact, I think Brazos Custom might stock them), which my be appreciated by someone who has to carry it around all day.

Can you drop in a USP Tactical threaded barrel in an HK45?

HK offers a Tac barrel for the HK45 and HK45c now... I don't believe you can just drop in a USP Tac barrel..

Is there some place that has the various HK optional parts that for whatever reason HK doesn't tell anybody about?

I you look around in the hk-usa site you'll see occasional announcements of new parts for sale. It's not exactly like searching amazon though. :)

sgcusa.com has some parts too like threaded barrels for the hk45. I recently sent off a snail mail to HK for a V2 control lever for HK45. The had me just print a parts order form, fill it out and mail it to them.

you can check the parts for sale forum here, or you can also check:

www.hkparts.net
www.hkspecialist.net
MLSecurity Products (email at mlsecurityproducts@comcast.net)

and/or a host of other HK parts stores... HKparts.net and HKspecialist.net will likely have any HK part you need.... if not, it either a very new item or a VERY rare item....

good luck
