View Full Version : Tired of shooting euro-style

I have a USP.45 compact and am tired of shooting euro style where the point of impact is behind the front sight. Came with Trudots, and I was shooting really low til I realized this. I want to see what I'm shooting(pumpkin on a post) and apparently the 6.0mm front sight is not available. 1)Can an adjustable rear sight(MMC, Heinie,Novak) correct this for me? and 2) Has anyone done something similar?

There is a guy here who used a shorter front sight to achieve the sight picture you're looking for. I think he ordered directly from HK. I doubt that an adjustable rear could be cranked down far enough to get the same effect, but Big Bore would be able to give you the skinny on that idea.

Just a thought, but you might consider giving Novak (Jason?) a call as their website doesn't detail all the sight blades they have available. Hk is out of stock on the tall sights for the USP 45CT and further, they have no idea when they would have them available again. I did order the rear (made by Novak; early ones had Heine if I'm not mistaken) from Hk and was surprised to see that the Hk logo was cast directly into the rear sight base. I called Novak and they have the tall front blade in stock. Worst case scenario would be to have a spare front blade milled down to what happens to work for you - having it re-finished afterward. Of course, that may only be acceptable on a standard blade versus trying to attempt that with a night sight insert.

An adjustable rear would need to be cranked UP to compensate for the standard sight in my situation. The shortest 6.0mm front s unavailable from Hk. Has anyone changed sights to get the pumpkin on the post effect?

Correct. Had my sights bass-ackward there. Maybe a complete set of new sights are in order.

Not so sure that's strictly a Euro sight picture. I believe it's a combat sight picture whereas the pumpkin on the post is the traditional sight picture. I find both adequate for what they are supposed to do. A combat sight picture is made for quick center of mass target acquisition and not necessarily bullseye shooting. JMHO I am comfortable with both once I got used to the difference in POA/POI between the two.

Exactly right.
Personally, I also prefer the POP method though, with the top edge of the front-sight being the POI. :)

The way I've always shot...
Who has corrected this?

1.) johno, how long have you been shooting your HK USPc 45?
2.) And how many rounds have you put through it so far?
3.) What other pistols are you more accustomed to shooting?
