Too bad, the P9S is an awesome gun to own and shoot.

Is that a fairly normal price for the P9S? (I mean the Dan's Sporting Goods price.)

I've acquired a reasonable collection of certain items, but the P9S doesn't have the same allure as the P7 for some reason.

I've also heard that the decocking mechanism is enough to give you the night sweats.

$550-650 for the surplus 9mm combats is pretty much where they have been for the last few years

the same gun but a HK USA import will bring more, as of course the 9mm target(IMOP that hardest to find, next to a SG) and the 45's target and combats

yeah the decocker takes some getting use to, but with I bet 5K thru my P9s I have had no issues, its my favorite HK to shoot

Id highly recogmend the P9s to anyone who loves to shoot, for $600 its an amazing gun...heck how many other roller lock pistols have you seen? :) (yes I know there are a few others)

I've always admired the P9S. Back in the early 80s, they were wikkid cool.

Landpimp,
just curious to know the last year for the P9S. Also, what is the part that sits directly aft of the trigger and inside the trigger guard on a target model? It looks like a vertical lever of some sort that the trigger shoe makes contact with on over-travel??

Tell you one thing, if it was a .45 P9S, the title would have been
"Check out my $500 P9S .45!!!!!!!"

Not trying to step on Landpimp's toes, but 1995 was the final year of production. The P9S 9mm had a total of 41,372 units while the P9S 45 had 8.462 units.

I thought it was 1985 production ended?

over travel stop, loosen the screw and move the lever untill it will only fire in single action, tighten screw

In reference to the above question about the trigger stop on the P9s Target. I think the reason it can be raised or lowered is for Competition Single Pull Target Shooting....and when lowered allows for double pull firing.

Also...mentioned the numbers and years of production of the P9s 9mm being over 40,000+ and lasting till 1995 Is that the entire world production figures....I wonder when was the last US imported P9s done and how many of them were there....more importantly, Iwonder if there were there any Target or Sport Group models produced abroad in these later years as well as parts....and where to find them?

And thirdly, a story to share.....I just found out the P9s 45acp combat I own is one of the first 10 made ....400-00x ! Gun is like new without box...several (7) years ago it was a consignment gun that sat on the shelf for several months...a friend that worked there called me asking if I was interested...I didn't know any thing about the P9S 45acp at the time and offered $500......two days later I gotta call from the shop saying for me to come down and get my new gun.....It wasn't for quite awhile later I realized i gotta pretty good deal. just had to share that one!

Interesting numbers mentioned here! It was my understanding that although HK stopped the regular catalogue listing of the P9s in the mid '80s there were pistols produced for some time afterwards. I think IIRC that there were many parts still available for years, and if they continued to assemble pistols that would not be a surprise. I still have a few old magazine articles around with interesting info about these pistols, I think one stated that one municipality in Socal issued .45acp P9s for a while. I have an early 9mm combat with a trigger overtravel stop, which I think every one of these should have had. I would love to find a target sear but I don't know if I could bring myself to try and install it, I won't take apart my camera or my watch either.

Might have been a mis-print on the date Landpimp. You could be correct on the date. My source was a website, not always 100% reliable.:) Or we could both be correct as 0848usmc pointed out as to an explanation for the later date.

my newest P9s is a 45, made in 1985, but I do beleive they were at least sold for many years after, not sure if made much after 85 but for sure they were sitting around for a few years after the last were made. The 45 was made for the US market BTW

think in 84 the P9s got the extra thick front trigger guard

like the HK4, which I think was said to have ended in 84 or so.......yet 1986 dated HK4's show up from time to time

HK USA still has target frames for the 45's in stock, if needed a replacmment they are $300-ish, also some other bits. They worked on a 45 of mine just last year, actaully the HK smith made the part it needed(just a small stud) He offered if I wanted to replace the frame or make the small part...I said make the part ;)

My carry P9S .45 Combat is a 1982 model and I bow to Landpimp's expertise.
