So I'm looking to buy a USPc and a guy locally has one for sale for 650. I contacked him about it and he says that the date code is 97-98ish.
Should I look for a different pistol? Were there any inprovements on the USPc series from 98 to current times? What do you all think?
Thanks

If it is in excellent shape, what does it matter? I have owned Hk firearms since 1994 and they are as great now as they were then. Also the new editions to their product line. Check the round count, any repairs, custom work and break it down and inspect all the parts. I would offer $500-600. Does it have night sights and if so how bright are they? Stainless or blued? Case, # of mags & manual?

My 2 cents.

I just sold my USPc 9mm, in mint condition, with original case, 2 mags, and all goodies for $500.

It was an AC datecode. . . meaning it was a 2002 year-model. FWIW :)

I can buy brand new 07 date code 40 S&W USPf for $619+tax at the local sporting goods store.

ALSO:

In my experience, the USPc 45 is usually the most expensive of the USP compacts, and the USPc 40 is the least expensive. . . You didn't mention the caliber of the one you are considering.

Ask him for the actual datecode letters on the slide. . . A 1997 gun will be a KH, and a 1998 gun will be a KI

There HAVE been some improvements to them since then, but I would still buy it if the price were right, and the gun was in excellent condition. Sounds a bit expensive.

Thanks for the responces everyone. So I feel the general concensis is that he is asking too much. It has 4 mags with it, case and manual, 300 rounds through it supposidly, chambered to 40s&w, and not the SS versions. I would just order off the internet but...

I bought my USPc 45 SS version NIB for $650 with 2 mags. With shipping and FFL fee it came out to be close to $700. And I have noticed that the 40S&W versions are priced lower than other versions on Gunbroker.com. So I would pass this offer. But if it is in excellent condition as claimed, ask for better offer.

If the price is right I would buy it and not look back.

I also found a P2000 for 650 that is new unfired, and a P2000sk for 600 with only 300 rounds through it.
As far as I know the P2k series are more expensive so these seem like a good deal.
My only problem with the P2k's is that they don't have safeties. This is troublesome to me since I've never had a pistol without a safety. Am I being ridiculous about this? This pistol is primarily for concealed carry. Do you guys feel the need for a safety on a CCW?

I've never had a gun with a safety (glock and some HK's). I use a p2000sk for carry and love it. Personally, I wouldn't want a safety. I keep the finger off the trigger unless I want to fire, so it's not even a thought for me. I think most guys like the safety so they can carry cocked and locked.

Too old, not a chance. There are a few changes but not of any major consequence. Too much, IMO yes since you can buy NIB from CDNN for about that price. $450 to $500 for one in 95-99% condition is more reasonable IMO unless it is stainless, then add on another $100 plus or minus.
My prices above are based on a pistol complete, two mags, gray hard case, manual, lock out key, fired shell casing unless confiscated by the state, and warranty card. Except for the warranty card and fired shell casing I would start deducting for anything not included.

Alright I guess I'll let this one pass. There's a big gun show here this weekend so maybe I'll go and see if I can find anything reasonably priced. Ha.

I traded a CPO Sig 228 I'd had for 6 months for a 97 USPc.45. It was at the same shop i originally got the 228. They were asking 550 for the USPc.45 and i had 560 in the 228. Traded even and never thought twice, the USPc.45 was defiantly dirty and rough looking but it cleaned up very well and my best guess is it had no more than 1k round through it.

I own a 1997 USPc .40 stainless steel. I bought it in 2001 for $600. That was just the gun, 3 mags, and a safariland holster. So I would also agree that is too much comparing to what I paid for mine 7 years ago, when you can go and get one brand new for almost the same price.

Also I still use this weapon today, and I shoot it on a monthly basis. I have had no trouble with it and it fires just as good as a new one would.

No way is that too old. Make them an offer, the worst they can say is NO. If its in great shape and has 4 mags... I think somewhere around $500.00 would be reasonable. Good Luck.
