Hey guys,
I have never owned or shot an HK but am looking at getting a P2000 9mm var 3, my wife wants to buy me a gun for Xmas. I held one yesterday and it feels real good and dry fired good. I can't find any substantial reviews of the 2000 and am curious what opinions you guys could give me. I am a lefty and like the ambi release and no side safety. Presently I have several guns and the SIG 228 and a SIG Pro 9mm are my favorites and both are very accurate. My main purpose is a carry gun and typical target shooting. Can you give me feedback and the pro's and cons on this? I hate DA triggers and would typically pull the hammer back to start with, so no LEM or DAO trigger opinions matter to me. How accurate is the P2000, how is the SA trigger. I am very familiar with the H&K reputation and always here good things about the USP. Would you recommend the USP over the P2000?
thanks for your help.

I am also a lefty, have a P2000 V3 9mm, and it is my regular carry gun. Works very well for me in all aspects. It shoots wonderfully accurate and of course hasn't had a hitch of a malfunction since day one. The only "downside" is the VERY heavy DA pull. However, for a defensive/carry gun I don't mind a little extra effort needed to pull off that first shot.
In reference to VS the USP, both are great guns but I think the P2000 makes for a better gun in the carry department.

And, to Axel357's point, the heavy trigger pull can be alleviated by changing a couple of springs on the gun, as well as by using a lighter mainspring. I'm a lefty as well, and the P2000 with a lightened trigger pull was a godsend for me.
The other thing that tripped it for me was that everything on the P2000, every edge, was rounded and fit me much better. I had issues with the trigger guard on SIGs.

I am a newb here but it sure seems like the HK triggers are difficult from what multiple people are saying on several different posts. Is that true? I will not buy the LEM trigger because I hate DAO triggers. I generally pull the hammer back to shoot in SA mode. How is the DA/SA trigger on the 2000's. The salesman at the gun store said the 2000 trigger was better than the USP trigger. True?

The weak link to all H&K polymer handguns is the trigger in my opinion. There are things you can do to make them better though. I think the USP series has a much better trigger than the P2000 and P30 though because the reset is about 1/2 as short.
You should give LEM a try. It's essentially a single action trigger with long take up on the first shot than DAO like sig's DAK or glock triggers. It has the long take up with no resistance and then a short quick break like a single action. On follow up shots it has a short reset and again the short quick break and you don't have to pull through the long take up again. If all you do on a DA/SA is thumb cock it to shoot single action, you may appreciate this trigger system because you only have to pull through the long take up and then it's essentially in "single action."
Give this a read.

My EDC is a P2000 v3 9mm and I couldn't be happier. With an IWB* from http://www.ttgunleather.com/ and the the right shirt, it's invisible. I have trained diligently w/this set up and at 7 yds I can draw and put two COM in 1.39 secs**. Believe me, the DA pull is easy to master, as is the rather long reset point. My douple-tap groups at that distance are 2-4"
I tried all the different backstraps and the medium works best for me.
As far as reliability, I have almost 3,000 rnds through it now and no failures. That's mostly WWB 115 FMJ but I do have 100 rnds each of Rem Golden Sabre 147 JHP & Federar Hydra Shok 135 JHP.
*It's a very high quality copy of the MS VMII.
**That's my best time and it was while wearing a denim jacket. My average time is around 1.75

I carry a P2K every day and went through Ayoob;s LFI with it. Counting practice, a Steelchallange, an IDPA match and the LFI course I fired 1500 rounds in two weeks though it with ONE cleaning.
I sent all of my HK's to Bill Springfield at tirggerworks.com it is really worth it. I fired a 290 out of 300 with my 9mm. I'm sending the 357Sig to Bill for a trigger job and will switch to it when he is finished.

I like the P2000 much better than the USP, but the only USP i've tried is a compact in 45.
My P2k's in .40 and it's a V3. i actually like the feel of the SA/DA trigger.
off topic but anyone know any other good IWB holsters? thanks!

My favorite for the P2k (or P2ksk, too) is the DeSantis Cozy Partner.

Just ordered my P2000 9mm from CDNN for $659, about $100+ less than the local stores if you include taxes. Its my Xmas gift from the Mrs..... It will be interesting to see how it compares to my 2 SIGs.
Thanks and have a good Xmas

You will not be disappointed.
You might want to get some more 13 rnd mags before inauguration day also.

I tried to order a couple but they were out. I'll have to look elsewhere.
I recently purchased my P2000 from Clyde Armory (https://policeguns.com/) for $750. This is a little higher than a couple of places, but does come with factory installed night sights and a third clip. Well worth the extra $ IMHO.

Wow, to me that's deal, i guess it's a PRK thing. everything here's more expensive. I got mine for $865 OTD and that's without the nightsites and only 2 mags. gggrrrrr:37:
