I decided to start my day off at Gander Mountain to browse and chuckle at their outrageous prices on guns. They have an on-site gunsmith who was talking to a father and son. I didn't think anything of it till I heard HK - my ears piped up. So I took another casual cruise by since our GM doesn't carry HK.
In his hand was a HK45 and we was complaining about the trigger or something. I guess he was asking the smith what could be done to it. The gunsmith said nothing really could be done with HK triggers the way they are made. He offered the man $500 for the pistol if he didn't want it. I laughed at the lowball offer. I ended up being shocked with the response as he agreed!!! The smith said something else and walked to the back for something. Thats when I moved in!
I asked a quick history and story behind the pistol. Seemed the pistol was a gift from a co-worker who also hated the trigger. Said he fired maybe 200 rounds through it and hated it himself. The wear on it was lighter than on my HK45 so I figured he was pretty honest on the history. So I threw in my own lowball of $550. The gunsmith walked up a few minutes after my offer and the gentleman said he had changed his mind.
We talked some more and parted ways. I was kinda bummed as my offer probably made him curious as to why two offers so quick. I finished looking around for about 20 minutes and headed to my car without a purchase.
As I walk towards my car, that same gentleman comes up and asks if my offer of $550 is still good. I asked some more questions to get more information - thats when he went to his car, got the complete HK case, paperwork, and bill of sale. Everything looked to be in order so I agreed.
I just so happened to have cash on me - we made the exchange and turned out his brother is a friend of mine. I got his address on his DL and phone number if I need it for later on. He seemed to be very legit and I took all precautions to get accurate info.
I was pretty stoked - went to the gun range down the street and added a 100 rounds to her estimated count. Not a single flaw and the gun looks just as my first.
Three new HK's this week - MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME!!!!
