I own a Hk45c and was wondering about the P2000 40? Seems the p2000 is slightly smaller, rounded edges, 12 rounds vs 8. Any opinions?

The P2000 in .40 S&W makes for a nice package. The extra rounds are something to think about.

I weighed mine. They are both 35oz. fully loaded +1 in the pipe, numbers being rounded off of course. So 4 rounds more in the gun at the same weight for the P2000. This is just me but I like the idea of more rounds available in the gun, when all other factors are equal. The wolves seem to travel in packs these days.

You should handle both, because they do feel a little different. The HK45c has a nicer trigger in either DA/SA or in LEM because it has a much shorter reset. Also, you have the option of having a safety and cocked & locked single action with the 45c.

I have been strongly considering CDNN 357/40 P2000 for some time now. It is posts like your that makes my wife mad at me.....shame on you sir.

Personally, I prefer the 40S&W to 45ACP for the capacity and control. I don't carry my USPc 45 and think it is a great gun, but I would really like the rounded edges of P2000.

I recommend the HK45c with 10rnd mag or carry a extra 8rnd mag, its hard to argue with the power behind the 45acp.

If you want to run a Surefire X300, it does fit on a P2000 but not the 45C.

The 40S&W approaches 45ACP ballistics and is does in fact have a greater muzzle velocity and comparable energy depending upon the load. It also gives you extra rounds in the mag and a smaller framed pistol. While the 45ACP has a more recoil the 40 does have a bit more muzzle flip whereas the 45 is more of a heavy push. The 40 is similar to a +P 9mm in muzzle flip. I like 45s, I like the 40S&W and I like the 9mm. If the 2000 feels good in your hand there's no reason not to own one. My 40 is a USPf LEM.

I spent 2 hours and about a billion rounds at the range comparing the P200SK to my usual carry gun a G27 today. I had intentions of selling my G27 to my Dad and getting the P2000 so I am “all HK” again. After shooting 300 rounds through the two today my conclusion was that they are both great guns. To me the muzzle flip between the two was so close to identical that it couldn’t be considered a deciding factor. I was shooting equal groups with both guns too. I wasn’t too thrilled with the take up on the P2000’s trigger though, it felt like a mile compared to the G27 and felt like half a mile compared to my USP45TAC, which I am thinking I want less take-up now after shooting it back to back with a couple other guns today. I’m nit picking in regards to the 45TAC, it shoots great, but the P2000 was a bit over the top. After shooting I had not come to a conclusion about what I thought of the P2000 so I figured I would go home and think on it. I wanted to want it though.

As I was walking out the door I noticed the HK45c under the counter and asked to check it out. It was obviously bigger than the G27 or the P2000 but not a lot bigger. I took a test gun back out on the range to see what I thought of it. I put the first mag through the X in the X ring at 25 yards! Then I handed it too my Dad and he ran it out to 35 yards and put the next mag all in the head. The gun was absolutely transparent in my hands. It could have been part of my body, it was perfect. I eve pulled the 45TAC back out to shoot them back to back and to be honest I think the HK45c shoots as good as the 45TAC and I am not eve used to it yet.

Needless to say my Dad now has a G27 and my new carry gun is the HK45. In my opinion the HK45 is a lot more refined and easy to handle than the P2000. Yes it’s a bit bigger and a bit more money, but for me it fills my needs and what I want a gun to feel like perfectly.

In regard to muzzle flip/recoil of the .40 S&W, many of the commercial loads are too hot. I would recommend using something like the CorBon DPX 140 gr. load. Since I switched, I can feel the difference. Its what a .40 S&W load should be IMHO.:D
