Hi guys...
I have a taurus pt-24/7 and used to have a glock 21 (sold bc I didn't like the ergonomics and 9mm is cheaper) and I am now looking for a real nice high quality full size 9mm pistol (the taurus isnt keeping me happy). So I am looking at a usp 9 or the new p30L. What are the advantages of one over the other? I am just going to be turning 18 in just over a week and I will only be using this pistol at the range and as a bow hunting companion, not for concealed carry or duty use.
Thank you for any advice

Hold both, just to be sure. But i think you will want the P30L.

I like the p30 ergonomics, Fits my hand better than the square usp series.

I say go for the P30L. More light laser options without rail adapter, better grip. 15 years of evolution over the USP.

I would go with the USP. The P30L does not offer anything over the USP other than the grip and IMO it is not worth the extra $150+ that the P30L is going for. The USP also has a better stock trigger and the ability to install the Match Trigger. The USP also has an external safety if that is important to you and allows for condition one (cocked and locked) carry.

I would go with the P30L. You can change the grip panels out to fit your hand were as the USP you are stuck with the same grip.
Just my two cents,

The P30L is a USP with interchangeable straps and front slide serration's.
Buy a USP 9 and invest that saved money into ammo, magazines, and range time.
Personally, I think the ergonomics of the USP are wonderful and the P30/P45 series is merely "icing" on the cake. I mean, are you okay with paying an extra $150 bucks for front slide serration's and interchangeable grips? The difference is in the appearance.
Whatever you choose, congratulations on exercising your second Amendment rights. Hopefully, both HK's will end up in your collection.
Edit: I believe both the USP and P30 are internally/mechanistically related. They both use a short recoil operated, browning-type tilting barrel, locked breech action.
Mark71 hit the nail on the head and I side with him.

P30L easy. Slimmer, better grip, better trigger.

I agree with mark, if you could get a better trigger on the P30L I would push that one on you.

I can't agree with the better trigger...at least comparing the one on the new P30L I held this afternoon to to my broken in USP trigger.

I guess if one were h#ll bent on having a new light like an X-300 Surefire, then the P30 would be even cheaper since a good GG&G rail would add to the cost of the USP.
However, I agree with what's been said; the USP has a better trigger, and if the P30(&L) ever come with LEM, then it may be worth looking at a bit harder. As it stands, HK still hasn't delivered that massive shipment of 500 (that's a joke folks), to the US, so don't hold your breath they'll all get here in time to beat any legal action to be taken by the USGvt.

I've got another vote in my corner for the HK USP! Be sure though to try both and see what fits YOU best.
