What are these funny spots above my extractor? It's a USPc 9mm with only about 1100 rounds through it.
Is the finish failing? Rust/Corrosion? Somehow is the brass ejecting and just hitting there? I never really noticed this before but It's completely possible that it's been there.

That's where the spent casing hits the slide as it ejects. Don't worry about it.

Thanks. I was hoping it was something like that. I guess I envisioned the USP throwing brass perfectly to the side and not dinging up the gun like an AR. Thanks for the info!

All my 1911's kick the casings up and leave brass marks on the flared ejection port. If it bugs you then take a leather shoe eraser to them and it will go away in a few swipes. The eraser I am talking about can be bought even at a grocery store and is used from removing marks from swede leather shoes.

Does the eraser do anything to the finish?

Well my 1911 was blued and now it is Ionbond with no real issues. Right where the ejection port is cut there is a sharp clean line and I noticed it start to become shiny so I dont do this as often anymore. Being that the HK is s flat surface right where the marks are it should be easy enough task and not do anything to the finish. Wait a couple of weeks until i get my HK and I will do it first. :)
I have heard of people using solvents to remove the spots as well so that would be less abrasive. Honestly I would just leave it be unless it really starts to build up then have at it. The eraser would likely act like accelerated holster wear which is no big deal unless this is your range gun.

Even range guns need a little character. :D
So are you're saying this is just a small ammount of brass left on the slide? On my AR it does the same thing, but I can mostly wipe the brass marks off.

Yeah its brass and like I said I dont have my HK yet but my 1911's have the same marks. I just leave them now since they come back in just one range trip.
