I've looked around a few places and still can't find an answer. Is it possible to convert a USP compact tactical in variant 7 (DA only, no safety or decocking lever) to a variant 1 or any other variant? I like the safety and the single action and would like to know if this is possible.

Thanks!

out of curiosity, what makes you think you wouldn't be able to?

It might be a little pricey to get a new hammer and control lever though. Possible Yes

I assumed it would be possible since keeping the same construction for the pistols and just swapping out small parts would be easier on HKs manufacturing side instead of making them incompatible with each other, but I wanted to check and be sure.

Would this be a difficult conversion or is it just simply swapping out parts?

I found an ambidextrous control lever for $68 from midway, do I need a new hammer too?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm still new at this.

It should be no problem for you to do that as long as you can get all the parts you need. I am not sure what all it takes but if you look down at the bottome of this pdf.
http://www.kerensky.net/pdf/HKUSPArmorer.pdf
It has a exploded view and it lists out all the parts, telling which ones are for which trigger variant.
I have never tried ordering parts direct from HK as I just got my first one last month but I have heard that you are able to.
Hope that helps.

P.S. You can get other manuals for this gun here:

Here is another thread, where they are discussing the same thing, that you might want to take a look at:

I bet you a dollar (I'm a big spender) that you don't have a Variant 7, but you have the LEM instead. To know for sure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVMJ1IhiEWY (Fast forward to 4:57 to get to what is relevant, here)

You can convert it a Variant 1. You can also just have a safety lever installed. My suggestion is to try to get used to the LEM, or do the modifications to adjust the trigger weight to the light 3.5-4.5 pound pull.
