I was reading a post on how a well a young boy did with a HK23 and thought I would share this.
Last Sunday turned out to be a "take your daughter to the range day" for me. It started out by me wanting to spend the afternoon shooting without catching grief about abandoning the family.
This is how I started the going to the range process: I looked at my wife and asked, "Want to go to range with me?" She said "No", (it was working!) "but you can take Stephanie." (It was now working for my wife!) Ten minutes later we were in the car headed to the indoor range in Timonium, Maryland. My 15 year old daughter had never held a weapon of any kind, much less fired one until Sunday.
I started her off with a Rugger Mk III. She did ok- most shots were within 8 inches of her aim point at 15 yards. We used 100 rounds to work on the basics of grip, stance, and etc. We moved on to a Sig Mosquito (.22) at the tail end of the 100 rounds. She improved on her shooting, although you lose a lot of accuracy with the Mosquito. We then moved on to a Beretta 92F. This gun is like "butter", and was my favorite until I bought the HK. She did fine, as she could get at least one or two shots out of ten in the three inch orange paste-on circle.
Then came the HK USP .45 Tactical. This is a stock gun with standard sights. I ran a clip through the gun to show her what to expect. She said "Yeh, yeh, I know, let me shoot it now." (Don't you love teenagers?) She loaded a five round clip, and proceeded to put four of the rounds in the orange dot at 15 yards. Her next few clips were on par with the first. She didn't com close to this with the other pistols.
The USP .45 Tactical is a great gun. I have a Colt Model 70, and have fired if for years, and if that is the baseline weapon for comparison, there is no comparison between the two weapons. The HK is easy to shoot, and is very accurate out of the box. I have achieved my best pistol shooting accuracy with this weapon.
