Hey everybody.
I wasnt thinking my first post would be about a background check but I thought I would share...........
I went to pick up my New 45C today. It was shipped from the east coast to my home of Ohio. I was so happy and ready to go to the range w/ my dad tomorrow, after all this was my first handgun.........Until the salesman told me that they put a hold on my background. They told me, in eight days if they hadnt heard anything back, that I could come back and pick it up.
I think its total crap. I called the NICS and they told me this is normal.......
They told me that my Ticket I received when I was 19 for underage drinking might be to blame......... Im 29 now!!!!!! I cant beleive a simple charge as this 10 years ago could cause me to possibly ineligable to own a handgun......

Oh don't worry, I'm sure you will have to dive through a flaming hoop naked, and run 10 miles without spilling a shot glass of water before they approve you. Welcome to the wonderful world of NICS. I have pretty much completely stopped buying from FFL's. Every time I do I get put on hold and have to send in prints, then wait 6 ****ing months because apparently there is someone very naughty with a similar name. So now I just buy FTF locally when I can.

a delay is no big deal, I get NICS delay 25% of the time.....always within a day or so NICS calls back with an aproval. I do have a reason for the delay....and its on file with NICS but still get the delay
what you dont want is to be DENIED by NICS

In all the guns I have bought, I have had one occasion of being delayed. I drove about (2) hours to pick up my new Hk USC 45 carbine. I never been delayed. Brian, salesman, told me that it happens often. He told me that the local police chief gets delayed everytime. It bothered me because I was policeman. So I waited around about an hour & went home only to have a message that I could come to pick it up, I was cleared. The next day I went back.
I'm now with a new police dept. and have had no problems to this date, however my Chief gets delayed often per the FFL.
I bet you will be cleared very soon. Don't worry.

Thanks again I definintly feel better about the situation...:14000000:

EVERY time I pick up a gun i get bumped up to level two people. My poor FFL has gotten stuck on hold for over a 1/2 hour on several occassions. I have no criminal issues and am an honorably discharged vet. PLUS, my name isn't terribly common and it doesn't have Bin Laden in it -- it pisses me off everytime. I've only ever even been put on hold once and they called back two hours later to say the transfer was fine. I just don't get it......... instant my ass!

In Arizona if you have a CCW you get to bypass the DPS (state police) check when you purchase firearms, so I don't even have to wait for the FFL to call DPS. I got my CCW two weeks after turning 21, so I've never had to wait for anything. Gotta love AZ.

In MN, permit to carry is also a permit to purchase, good for 5 years.
Just an idea, but did you provide your SS# (optional on form)? Sometimes a common name can cause delays. Also keep in mind that NICS background checks are at an all time high right now. Good luck.

I have been a bonded officer since 1985. I never had any problems in the old days when checks were done locally. Now that the new system is in place, I have had delays twice. As Tennessee has such a long period before the carry permit needs to be renewed, we cannot use it instead of going thru the background check as in some other states.

In Tennessee, it was explained was this event is part of the problem when the laws were changed concerning domestic abuse and stalking charges. Evidently, when the records were computerized mistakes were made by the local agencies. These errors surfaced since these new restrictions were put into place. It was explained that there was "no disposition put on the case"-in this instance from 1970 by the local authorities. Most recently, I was turned down ten days after my renewed carry permit had come. The waiting time for a provisional clearance is about one month. In Tennessee, the dealer may elect not to deliver the firearm with this provisional clearance. I did it to myself-the purchase was a Glock27.

Glad you got your pistol but expect to be put on delay for the rest of your life. I got a disorderly conduct arrest when I was 19 and even though my record has been squeaky clean for the next 33 years, despite holding a C&R FFL, and despite having multiple NFA stamps, I still get put on delay on every firearm purchase. Sometimes I go on delay for fifteen minutes, sometimes for the full three days (which is more like 7 days if a weekend and holiday is in there).
All I can tell you is either apply for a PIN with the ATFE or get use to being put on delay.
I cannot even get a PIN since my DC arrest was so long ago that there are no specific records of it other than the statement that I plead guilty to a DC charge and paid a $50 fine, and since at that time domestic violence (which had nothing at all to do with my arrest) fell under DC charges, and since the ATFE/Brady check could not verify that my arrest had nothing to do with domestic violence since there is no specifics to the case, they refused to issue a PIN. So, I have gone on delay every single time I have bought a gun since the stupid Brady bill went into affect.
Don't sweat it, just be aware that you will go on delay and plan for it.
Of course, we all know the background check does not inconvenience honest, law abiding citizens, does it?

lol. MI CCW = Drive home with new gun.
I did have a proper background check when I was 18 buying my first .22LR rifle at K-mart. The manager called the ATF and while he was on hold, was telling me I'd have to wait a couple of days to take it home. Either hoo, the ATF came back on the line and told him I could take it immediately. I guess it pays to be a DOD civilian.

I thought it was the same everywhere since it's a federal form, but I guess not. In Texas, a CHL means they don't even call in the 4473. You just fill out the form and leave. I've bought a few P7s that way.

This gun is absolutely amazing.......... Like nothing Ive shot before.........
The recoil system in this gun is ingenious........Im now a true believer in HK.
On Sunday I ran 150 rnds Blazer Brass and 100 rnds of winchester white box not one problem.
My dad who is a pretty big critic on weapons even loved it. He said he really didnt believe the whole 30% reduction in recoil that the HK45c boasts. That is, until he shot it. He said every manufacture should develope a guns like they do, follow up shots are a breeze, spot on, and I have to agree.............Needless to say Im very impressed and very pleased w/ my decision. I hope you can help me in the future w/ questions. bear w/ me Im new at this...........Thanks guys :150000:
