Hey everyone, I just got my P7M8 and it's going to be my conceal weapon. My question is this. If you were going to use the gun as a CCW which would you do?
1. Leave the warning on the slide and refinish it with Robar and get NP3 finish.
2. Send it to Fords and have the slide milled, re-engraved and hard chromed.
I like the Ford option but I'm not too keen on having the engraving redone. I have searched and haven't seen anyone who said that they can just remill the warning off without losing some or re-engraving the lettering.
Suggestions?

If you milled only the warning off, there would be a step in the slide where the milling or grinding operation stopped. I don't know how deep the lettering for the warning is, but you can see and feel as little as a .001" step, and I'm sure it's a lot deeper than that.
They pretty much have to mill off enough material to get to the bottom of all the lettering or you'll end up with an eyesore.

If it bothers you enough to consider having it milled off why don't you save the hassle and find one that doesn't have it? That would be the easiest and it would preserve the value of the gun.

I appreciate your interjection however it doesn't answer either of my questions....

If you plan to keep it, I'd go with #2.

option 1;
the warning sign does not affect functioning of the gun; and if you decide to sell it down the road, it may affect resale value if you marr the surface w/ grinding

Well I just spoke to both Robar and Fords.
Fords states that they can do it at no charge and it won't be noticable as the engraving is very shallow.
Robar states that they just won't do it.
My question is how many OCD individuals got it done and how does it look?

Since both of your options involve permanent modification and will slightly lower the resale value to some collectors, I'd go with Ford's and get the warning removed. And don't worry about the fact that it may be ground. It's not like they're going to use a dremel or a bench grinder. Most likely, they're going to use a surface grinder, which produces an almost mirror finish it's so smooth, and that's before it's polished.
The only possible negative I've ever heard with Fords is that the font they engrave it with may not be an exact perfect match to the one from HK. But so what, you're going to have a custom P7 anyways. Since Tripp Research isn't doing them any more :( , Ford's is where I'll send mine.

I think I've decided to keep the gun the way it is since it's soo mint and buy a P7 and get it refinished.

That is the best option of all. Good choice.

Sounds like the virus has already started to take over. You're about to enter stage 4 now - Replication.
Good choice.
