I have heard comments about them being glow in the dark paint and not true night sights? is this true? Because the only reason i am ordering my p2ksk from clyde's is because it has night sights. i can get it locally for the same price without them.

Or are the night sights the PT ones? I have not seen an HK in person which has them due to the lack of stock on them locally. Thanks for any help.

For what it's worth, my USP40f came with real night sights.

It is my understanding that laws have changed in Germany whereas tritium is now illegal, so the new HKs ship with a "reflective paint" on their sights. My HK45s & P30 have this. The good point about them is, if you expose them to bright light, they glow MUCH better than conventional night sights. If you have a USP or several other HK pistols, you should have no problem finding a US company who makes conventional night sights for your pistol.

I recently acquired a HK P2000 from Clyde's. The night sights are tritium MEPROLIGHTS, not the superluminova (glo in the dark) like the newer HK models.

I could be wrong, but aren't the superluminova's just on the newer models? (HK45, HK45c, P30). I believe the P2000's and P2000sk have standard dove tail style sights that could easily be swapped out for Mepro, Trijicons or whatever.

Hmmm. My new USP compact tactical came with "HK" marked trijicon triutium sights (they are almost too bright, I think they affect your night vision!) So I don't know whats up with this tritium is illegal in Germany thing. I'll look it up. It must be recent.

It sound's like you should definitely get the one from Clyde's but make sure they are Tritium.

Edit: It appears that the tritium export law is true and has roots to way back when Germany was selling Nuclear power plant parts to Pakistan in the '80s.
I found this funny:
"Tritium exports are especially sensitive because tritium can be used as a neutron source in a fission bomb."

None of the Nuclear Navy's reactors use tritium, but I know that you would need a cubic crap ton of night sights PLUS a bunch of Uranium or Plutonium to make any kind of fissionable bomb. In other words, its ridiculous that night sights are prohibited because of the trace amounts of tritium.

P2000 can come with night sights from a dealer, but I did not see any night sights with P30 or Hk45 new line. I own P2000, P30, HK45C. Originally, 3 years ago P2000 came with the same sights as P30 or HK45C right now. I added to P2000 mepros later.

I've got a set of Meprolights for the P2000 if you plan on it for sale.

I bought a P2000sk w/nightsights from Clyde. It came with Meprolight Tru dot night sights.

I have shot in a few night exercises and found the factory sights totally deficient in darkness. They dont hold a charge long enough to be useful and you must use a secondary light source to see your target when your firing. Less than optimum.

I have been delaying getting tritium to see whether Crimson Trace comes up with a viable solution using the backstrap before I change out the factory sights. In daylight, they are fine, but if your in Total darkness, you might as well be blindfolded.

Where did you hear/see the comments?

My p2ksk has factory night sites and they work pretty well. I'm not sure if anyone in particular makes them for HK but they don't need to be recharged like the new "nite sites".

The HK45 and P30 come with the newer "glow paint (or whatever it is)" sights. It is now unlawful to use radioactive material (tritium) in Germany, hence the different sights. However, depending on when your P2Ksk was made, it may still have the tritium factory sights....

there is a video on youtube of a p30 review, he turns the lights off to talk about the night sights and you can't see them. he says they aren't charged...

How do you tell if you've got glow paint instead of real tritium?
Mine spent the last 3 days in the case and I just took it out in a dark closet and they were glowing just fine. Would paint hold a "charge" for that long or can I trust they are tritium?

USP Compact .40 dated AI.
HK invoice says Tritium Sights 701973.
Rear sight has in green lettering "TRU DOT".

I dont have any HK 'Rechargeable night sights', I would have to replace them with a real night sight. :)

In addition to opening the box they've been stored in while in a dark closet, you can usually tell by the size of the area that glows. The tritium sights have a non-glowing ring around a much smaller glowing dot in the center.

The photoluminescent paint is a much larger sized dot, and the entire painted area will glow.

Based on your report, you've got tritium.
