Hello,
I am new to these forums and love the format. After reading quite a few I have found this is probably the best collection of HK knowledge and experience. I recently purchased a USP45c and I'm in love. So much in fact that now I would like to buy a 9mm. I would really like something on the upper end of capacity or a model that can accept larger clips. I would love to get actual owners opinions of HKs 9mm choices. I have found usp 9, p2000, p30, vp70, and some other models. This 9 will probably not be a daily carry but more a range gun for fun as 9mm is pretty cheap. Any opinions, comparisons, pros/cons etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Chris

If you are looking for a hi cap pistol, then check out the full size USP 9mm with the jet funnel. It can also use the factory extended mags that holds slightly over 30 rounds.

Welcome to the forum. If I was going to get a 9mm the P30 would be my choice. It's ok for carry and it has 15 rd mags just my 2 cents again welcome.

Welcome to the forum. I would check out the P30 as suggested as well as the USP fullsize/compact. Both are excellent in 9mm. My P30 keeps getting better and better the more I shoot it. I don't carry it on my body but it's had plenty of car rides. The USP is the trademark of HK as far as I'm concerned and everyone should have one. And with a little appreciation, the P7 will round out any HK handgun collection.l

I have three 9's a USP SD and a p2000sk and a P30. The P30 beats them all by a long shot. I'd but the p2000sk second and the USP a distant third. The ergonomics are so much better on the newer guns imo.

Welcome, and many happy days at the range with your H&K.
+1 to Murfdog on this one. Also since it's mostly for fun at the range the P30L should be considered. BUT, at least try to hold them all in your hand to see how they point and feel for you before making a decision. The P30 fits my hand like a glove but I have a buddy that thinks the sun rises on his USP9. Although they are not plentiful you can find them for rent at some ranges.

Seems like the general consensus is P30 but I have yet to see one at any of the local shops. Maybe I'll get to ck one out at the gunshow next weekend.
Omega man, how would you compare your p30 to your xdm since that is a familiar pistol to me (I know its a totally different concept and mechanism)
Oh and I can see that this HK thing is going to be a serious addiction. I have tons of other guns and I can't remember ever shooting one then immediately wanting another one and spending countless hours on the internet because of it. Now all I need is a class III license lol. Those HK SMGs and rifles look sweet. I've got the traditional AR, SKS, and AK but they are semi and suddenly I feel "inadequate"

P7M13 (because you said that you wanted extra rounds) or P30

My vote is definitely for the P30 . It has surpassed my Sigs (all of them) as my gun of choice for both carry and the range. Anyway, here is my report if you are interested, with pics. http://hkpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97850

Welcome to the world of all things HK. My vote the P30 or P30L. I own the P30. Best 9mm out of the box. Plus the Adiction.

I am not sure I understand: if it is a range gun, why is hi cap important?
If you have not gotten one, try a P7M8 or PSP

Nice range report Fiore thanks!
Thanks! It of course was a blast to make. I am going to try to get out this weekend, however having finished my first week at the police academy, I also have studying to do first, so may not make it out.

Walkyrie,
The reason for hi cap is although it will be used mostly for a range gun, I like all my guns to have a "purpose" even if it is only for self justification. A hi-cap would be much more useful in certain situations as an occassional carry then say a 8 round 45. And did I mention I just wanted one lol. I want to ck. out the P7 or PSP, it was actually the first hk I ck'd out years ago. I am hoping they will all be at the gun show next weekend.
Fiore,
Good luck at the academy, a good friend who used to work for me just finished his State Police academy last week and he thought the pt was tougher then he anticipated. I'm sure you'll make it so an early congratz.

I agree. Both are super nice. There are several P7's on sale on Gunbroker at any time. Sometimes, 2 at a time!

I have been blessed with hands that love the feel of the USP, both full size and compact. Since I like having the option of cocked and locked, I prefer the variant 1 or nine. This isn't an option with the P30 or P2000. I also like the single action trigger reset of the USP better than the P30 or P2000. It is a good bit shorter, by about half, and I like the feel better. Also, one purely subjective thing I like about the USP's is that when firing one handed, in double or single action, the sights stay aligned with no extra effort or concentration. Since everyone's hands are different, try to rent each of the above, if possible, and see what works best for you.

Exactly. If you want a 9mm HK then get the best gun they ever made - The P7 series. The police trade in P7's are by far one of the best deals going on.

I would think about keeping the same trigger as your USP carrier weapon (DA/SA v. LEM). That is why I went with another USP in same variant; same muscle memory. Of course I have not shot my PSP yet.
