Okay, granted I just bought and fired the 30 yesterday.
But as I'm putting brass down range I can't help but think "would I carry this peice and put my life on it?"
Sure, it's reliable and awesome in SO mode but that DO is like pulling
double layerd cake away from a fat chick who was starved on a diet show.
Fact check me:
- D.O. only when un-cocked right? ;
- Can only safely carry it un-cocked correct?
Small gripes or common faults?

SA- Single Action
DA- Double Action
The safe way to carry the P30 is in DA mode. My advise get use to the DA trigger then ask yourself the same question.

Practice thumbing the hammer back as you draw and never use the DA again. :)

I have seen posts like these before. If you are going to draw a gun under extreme pressure and stress,..do you really want a light SA trigger,..on a gun that you have to take the safety off. Mind you,..most people who shoot regularly in IPSC/USPSA/IDPA are used to some stressors, but they all shoot. If you do not feel confident in firing a DA trigger first shot,..then you should not be thinking about carrying for self protection. I am in Canada,..we have no concealed carry permits (not unless you have a staggering amount of pull with a government organization),...but I carry sometimes for work. I generally carry a rifle or carbine,..but also carry a .38 model 10 revolver for back-up, (although we ARE getting the P2000 to replace that). I score 100% on the revolver for qualifications,..that is basic accuracy under generous time restraints. I can do that A hit with a DA trigger press at just about any range up to 25yards in under 1.5secs,...mostly under that speed. I can do this faster with a SA,..but not by much, maybe 1.3secs. What I am trying to say with out sounding like I am bragging is this; if you do not practice and know your limits you should really get out to the range and practice,..and participate in a competition. I am not faster at 5 yards with a SA over a DA.
There are more important things to consider,..like getting out of the way and taking cover.

go get 100 rounds to dedicate for DA only, and tell us what you think after. I don't personally like a first DA either, but one just needs to get used to it. If all else fails, go get a Mark 23 and carry cocked and locked! ;)

+1,..except I would suggest at least 500rds all starting DA. Draw and shoot 2 A's,.decock,reholster. Do this 250 times.

If your going to carry a DA auto for self protection you need to start practicing a lot to get comfortable with that long heavy trigger pull.Dry firing every day for the next few months should get you familiar with your gun and your finger/grip strength will improve dramatically.
When you can shoot groups as tight on the DA stroke as you can on the SA stroke you will then be a Black Belt in mastering the DA combat auto.
I would get some snap caps and you can even take a foamy ear plug and put that between the hammer and firing pin to cause less wear damage to your P30L..........Good shooting.

From stories I have read you will not notice a change in the heat of the moment.

Agreed. I've used DA at the Range on my P30 3 times. Thumbing the hammer back becomes second nature.
