I was toying with idea of sending my P2000 off to get the internals/slide/barrel/ refinished at Robar. I bought this P2000 with the intentions of making it my main CCW and want the most durable finish I can get. Just wanted to know peoples thoughts on the product that have had experience with NP3. Thanks.

Anyone?:150000:
I've done three NP3 weapons and I am totally satisfied with the finish. Clean up is remarkable....you can almost wipe the weapon down with a towel. The slide becomes very slick. I want to send Robar my Benelli M4 for a NP3 do over. You won't be disapointed

Can you do a black gun. I only saw satin grey finish. Or do you have to do the Rogard for black finishing?

I have a P2000 NP3'd by Robar. They do a great job and the finish is excellent. I've been very happy with their customer service. I also sent a Sig P228 for a full NP3 finish and it came back looking very nice.

After a range session today, I perused the gun counters to see what was new. They have a used USP .45 with the NP3 finish, the first one I've seen.
The finish has a very slick feel to it, and the color is a sort of flat grey with no shine to it whatsoever. IMO this finish has a business-like look to it and is a lot more attractive than stainless. I don't know who did the work on this one but it was flawless.

NP3 is always that silvery gray color. It's a form of nickel plating (electroless nickel to be precise) mixed with teflon.
And yeah, if you want black, get Roguard. But it's a fantastic coating as well. I don't own anything in either of them, but have seen examples at gun shows.

That P2000 in the link looks awesome! Very nice job. I've got a P7M8 in the NP3 and I don't know if it's my imagination, but I think it runs better, and smoother, than any of my other P7s. Slick stuff. Easy to clean!

Loupav that is the best looking P2000 I have seen! I am def goin to send my gun off too Robar to get the NP3 finish sometime later in the year... If you dont mind me asking was it around 300.00 for the slide/barrel/internals? If I like the outcome I might think about sending off some of my internals on my bushy AR-15 to them to have done..

From what ive heard the ion bond is the most durable finish for protecting the look of the slide. And it looks great from guns ive seen online.

I have IonBond on my 1911 and it is amazing. After 2 months of daily CCW in a holster there is no where on the finish that is worn through. Even the barrel hood has no marks on it which is typically the first place to show wear. The only holster wear I see are at the contact points the holster has on the gun there are some shiny marks in the finish. Its almost like those points were polished a bit but they are not worn through at all.
If I were to get a finish on the HK it would be IB for sure and being that you only need the slide done it would be cheap. Also since IB is cured at low temps and is so thin you can do all the small parts as well. Other finishes you cant do this since they are cured at high temps and change the temper of the metal or they are thick and mess with the tolerances of small fitted parts.
I had John Harrison do my Ionbond and some custom work to a 1911 but I am sure he would finish an HK slide no problem. My HK is my CCW gun so I am not going to worry about finish so I doubt I will be doing anything but run bullets down the pipe but IB gets my vote.

I have NP3 on my AR bolt, Rem. 700 bolt, my USP compact, and a Sig there now. It is awesome and slick. One our deputies has a duty glock he had NP3 8 years ago and it still looks good. Clean up is easy. If you get their Norton Special package, slide and all internals it is about $170. Worth every penny in my book plus life long finish if you ever have problems.

I have a Les Baer with the Bear coat which is a slick type finish as well and cant decide if I love it or hate it. I love how it makes all the parts feel so smooth and it actually provides lubrication but it feels like holding onto a slippery snot rocket when shooting. I have to have aggressive grips on it to get the grip I need. Now on the HK since the frame is plastic maybe it wouldnt matter so much but I like the grippy feel the IonBond offers.
Why not get the slide in Hard Chrome and you can play it off as a stainless HK. Its hard to tell the difference and its a sexy finish.

I don't care for the look of hard chrome. I've never seen either in person but the NP3 looked more metallic and the hard chrome looked more white IMO

I haven't gotten any of my pistols NP3'd yet ... but it is the BEST money I have ever spent on a firearm related purchase when I got it done for my AR bolt.

Keep in mind ROBAR does engrave each piece. GGI was going to send my gun off when done, but told me about the engraving. I contacted ROBAR and they confirmed it. I took apart my HK and found engraving in little hiddy holes. they say they so they can keep the parts of each gun together. They all the last 3 digits of my HK S/N.

NP3'd the internals of my P2000 9mm (wanted to keep the original "black gun" look on the outside) and could not be happier with the finish for the reasons stated in the posts above. I too believe that the physical properties of the coating provide a noticeable improvement in the function of the pistol.
