Found a P9 in 9MM today. Has the old style trigger gaurd. It is not marked P9S. The serial number is in the range that is listed as an early gun before double action. This gun is double action. Anyone have an idea what it would be worth? Finish is good. 1 mag no box.
Thanks

hi slade!
how do you tell what year it was manufactured by the serial number? I want to buy a P9S but I have to find some way to PROVE to MD that is was manufactured pre 1985
I know it is intuitive since they stopped producing them as the P9S far before then but because the gun is not stamped wth the manufacturing date I can't find a way to prove it
thanks,
nick

Not 100% sure on how to tell the date on these. My has a 72 on the side that may indicate the date.

there is a date, like 74 or latter they went to normal date code, like IB, IC etc....so yes you can date most of them

Nice find Slade! Yours appears to have an early target trigger guard which is somewhat unique, the small screw at the apex of the guard and frontstrap is the set screw. There should be a steel blade that can be set behind the trigger to act as an overtravel stop in single action mode, using this feature will lock out the DA mode. I have an early P9s Combat with the same guard, I prefer to use the stop as it really makes the SA trigger great.
