View Full Version : ugh.. chronic FTGTB on HK45c

Alright, so I've got a pretty new HK45c. Less than a thousand rounds total, about 500 since I last cleaned it (I was hoping it would go longer without having problems).

Anyway I've been using Magtech 230gr FMJ pretty much the whole time with no problems. Yesterday though, practically every other round was a failure to go to battery (slide is stuck about 1/8" from being fully closed, and needs to be tapped to push it forward). There didn't seem to be any pattern - it happened with all 5 of my mags, at the beginning, middle and end of the mag.

So .. any suggestions? 500 rounds doesn't sound like that many to go without a cleaning, certainly not for a pistol meant for combat.

What is the aversion to cleaning our pistols? The odds of a pistol in combat going 500 rounds before cleaning are rather slim IMHO. They tend not to be a primary, or offensive weapon. Besides, the soldiers and Marines I've know were meticulous with the care of their weapons and were inclined to keep them as clean as they could. My carry pistol and my range pistols are cleaned after every use which would be 100 rounds, or perhaps 150 rounds per pistol. Depending on the ammo I'm using they can be pretty grungy at that point. I also clean my mags at the same time. I'd give my gun and mags a good cleaning and see if the problem goes away. Odds are it will.

Run it 'wetter'. Oil the heck out of it. According to Larry Vickers it will run better wet and dirty than dry and dirty.

it is the truth for many weapons. If there isn't enough time to clean a weapon on the battlefield, we'll just douse it with CLP in the right areas. Works like a charm, but a thourough cleaning is in order every time you fire. You do a tactical reload whenever you can, right?

To me, it sounds like the disconnector is dirty and sticking. Oil.

I wouldn't say I'm adverse to cleaning my guns.. If I was carrying it I would be cleaning it every week. I was more interested in finding the failure point. Needless to say, I wasn't expecting it so soon!

Btw, I found another post - seems HK gets a lot of calls about ftgtb with WWB and Magtech. Anyway, I have a couple of things to try before I give it a good cleaning .. "breaking in" the mag springs, different ammo, oiling the disconnector, general lubing..
