Gun is a USP45c:

So after shooting my reloads which feel slightly lighter then WWB I tried some Gold Dots 230grn to check for feeding issues. They fed fine and were accurate as heck but I felt something in the gun that I dont understand.

What I can describe this as is standard recoil but toward the rear of the slide cycle it felt like a second recoil spring kicked in and soaked up the recoil very well. I could feel the GD's were stout but it wasnt a sharp crack but more of a springy roll that I felt. I hope I am making sense and I understand the HK has some sort of special recoil design but hope you guys can educate me on what that is or what I am feeling.

My thoughts were that the reloads werent cycling the recoil spring all the way to the rear and the GD's used full travel but am not sure. All my reloads were reliable and pretty accurate but I could tell shot placement and accuracy was better with the GD's likely due to being hotter. On my next batch of reloads I may step it up a bit by .3 grains which would make them 4.8grns Bullseye using 230grn FMJ and COL at 1.265.

The HK "special recoil design" you refer to is not on the compacts. It is only on the fullsize USPs and on the Mark 23. Instead of a recoil spring and a nylon buffer (like on the compacts) the fullsize USPs have a recoil spring and a spring buffer, AKA a "dual-spring recoil system". :)

May I ask what brand of FMJs you are using and how much you are paying for them?

I am buying from here and they are great quality. I used to buy their lead round nose bullets for my 1911's but since the price of lead is so high it makes no sense to save $15 per 1k to deal with the mess. Now that I own a Hk is for sure dont need lead any longer.

Free shipping on 1k + bullets. :)

As for what I am feeling I guess it just must be the full slide travel and compression of the recoil spring using hotter loads. With my reloads that a bit more tame I dont feel the same thing and I bet the slide never contacts the nylon buffer.
