I just read in a P2000 manual that the mags for the P2000 sold in the states were not compatable with the P2000 sold in Europe. Does anyone know why this is? What other differences are there between the P2ks here and over there?

I am not sure of all of the exact differences between the two models. However, you have discovered one that I can absolutely verify. My good friend and infrequent poster on this board, Ming, managed to get his hands on one of the Euro versions and lives in Georgia. Obtaining new mags without incurring hefty overseas shipping/pricing has been near impossible.

Being that I had one of the Euro P2000's that HK Inc kept on hand a few years ago I'll give you the run down.

The Euro P2000 and P2000 US are the same exact gun except for the frame.

The frame was modified to accept only USP Compact magazines which were already approved by the BATFE. This was during the '94 Crime Bill years.

The issue come to be when HK Inc submittied the P2000 to the BATFE for approval only to find that the magazines were too easily modifiable to accept more then 10-rounds for civilian sale at the time. HK simply sent the guns (minus about 10) back to Germany to have new frames made that would only accept the USP Compact magazines.

Hope that helps/
