I just got back from the range. While I was there, I saw they had a P2000 9mm var 1 for rent.. and when I had that P2000 in my hand, I swear it molds right into my hand, just like spiderman's black suit.... great, now I want a P2000 BAD!!
question, P2000 vs P2000sk, I know the sk is a subcompact, besides the size, are both exactly the same? as in performance wise?

When I went looking for a carry pistol, I thought I would get a USP Compact in 9mm (UPSc9) b/c I already had a Full sized USP in 9mm. (USPf9).

I checked out the USPc9 and then, the clerk at the counter handed me a P2000/9. Even though they were of very similar dimensions, that P2000 felt soooo much better. I bought the P2000 on the spot and I'm glad I did.

It's my everything gun: Every Day Carry (EDC), IDPA & USPSA (shooting games).

RE: the sk, yes, ergonomics are the same but go the the H&K site

http://www.hk-usa.com/

for all the specs.

I got the v1 also and again, I'm so glad I did. It really took less than a dozen rounds to get that first DA shot right where I wanted it and less than 50 double-tap combinations before I was getting 2" groups from 10' in 1.39 seconds from a holstered draw.

Get it, you won't be sorry.

if you feel comfortable in your ability to conceal a P2K, then forgo the SK.... it is SMALL and is (I feel) more difficult to shoot well...

if I had gone that route, I wouldn't be ordering a P30L tomorrow....

hey Ken, that's exactly how I felt when I held that P2000. I have a USP full size .40, I'm not saying it feels bad, it's just that P2000 fits my hand perfectly!
thanks for the link. From what the HK site stated, the SK only comes with M, L backstraps. I"m pretty sure the one I held was a Small backstrap, so I'm leaning towards the P2000 now :D

Since I just got my USPf .40 a week ago, I"ll have to wait another 3 weeks before getting the P2000 :(

If you don't plan on carrying this weapon, the P2000 is the way to go! I only have average size hands, and even with the pinky rest mags, I have a tough time getting a good grip on my P2000SK. (In the process of selling it, and I now carry a P7M8)

I did the same thing yesterday........ went to shoot and happend to see the P2000 in the case. Had to handle it as I'm looking for a new carry gun. They had the 9mm V3 there but it was used and had a $699 price tag. Seemed kinda high, what do you think? What prices are people finding them new? I'm just starting my search for one this morning.

Bender have you thought about getting the X-Grips for the SK? I just bought two mags this morning from shooters plus for a P2000 and then ordered two x-grips. In a couple days my SK will have the same grip size as a standard P2000, I can't wait.

+1 for the xgrips. then you have the option of carrying a gun with the grip size of the p2000 or the grip size of the sk. versatility is the key. unless the gun will be used at the range only then get the p2000.

thought about getting the X-Grips for the SK

Double D: Yes, that is a GREAT idea and I did buy the X-grip and ordered a couple P2000 mags from Midway (have since xcelled). My reasons were twofold: First, this solution would help me at the range but defeat the purpose of buying a small gun for concealed carry. Two, since getting that P2000SK, I've fallen in love with, and carry, the P7M8. For me, it's not too heavy, and the trigger is much closer to my 1911s.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the little gun, I just no longer have a purpose for it. Nowadays, room in my safe has become scarce and I just can't justify keeping it any longer. (I thought about using it as a car gun buy I've got a couple XD9scs for that purpose.)

I have medium sized hands and when I picked up the P2000 in a local shop I knew I had to have it, so after debating on what caliber to get I decided to go with the P2000 40 LEM, and I have to say some may disagree but IMO it is one of the softest shooting 40's I have ever shot. But if it fits your hands like a glove then thats all that matters what ever feels best to the operator... and it is easy to conceal but would recommend the flat baseplates for your magazines...

The P2000sk fits my hands perfectly, but I am a smaller stature guy. If you cannot try on a sk at your local store this might help. My total width of palm is 3.5" while the width of my middle/ring/pinkie of my strong hand is around 2 1/8". My whole hand just fits without any overhang using the extended mag baseplate. If your hands are any larger you will have your pinkie overhanging the grip.

I feel the solution is following spyder's advice and purchase the sk with the x-grip. The P2000 is a great range pistol and I know some here use it as an EDC. However, since the sk fits me so well I have to vote for that one!

Good luck in which ever you choose.

That is basically what happened to me too. I was looking for a new carry gun, just took my CPL class etc at that point.

I wanted the HK USP Compact in .45acp so I headed into one of my favorite gun dealers with a permit in hand, cash in my pocket.

No HK USP Compacts in .45acp. Frankly they almost NO HK weapons other then one HK USP Compact in .40 cal with the gray frame and one HK P2000 V3 in .40 caliber.

At this point, I'd never seen or even heard of the P2000 so I asked to see the HK USP Compact in .40 with the gray frame. Had that frame have been black, I might have bought it but the gray was a big turn off. Sales guy said well here check out this P2000...

The thing touched my hand and it was love at first touch. I bought it on the spot and this is currently my favorite pistol.

I'm a huge fan of the p2000sk. With the extended mag plate my pinky doesn't dangle so it's the smallest size gun I'd really want to carry. In 9mm it's 10+1. With the x-grips and p2000 mags it's like having two guns in one, which is pretty unique and functional. I love this gun!

hey guys, thanks for all the info! I do plan to make it a carry in the future, so I'm a bit leaning towards the P2000sk.....now, will it be too much trouble for me to ask you P2000 and P2000sk owners to measure the grip dimension (distance from the end of the trigger guard to the end of backstrap), since I can't find any of that info on the HK site, and no shop/range has the p2000sk for me to try. thanks in advance! here's a pic of my USPf 40 grip:

I will measure mine in the morning but for now... let me tell you i for the longest time carried a sigpro compact, very similar in size to the p2000. it concealed easy enough and got used to the size of it, but one day thought it's time for a smaller gun... i now carry a p2000sk and love it... the p2000 fit my hand very nicely but was the same size as my old sig so i chose smaller. You will not regret getting the smaller one... I am 6'2" 210lbs with med/large hands and i can get my hand on the frame just fine...it just wasnt natural at first but after playing with it for hours it fits. Now to go one step further i ordered 3 pearce grips, PG-26 and modded them like others have done.... i now own the best polymer framed Subcombat that you can get... can shoot CD size spreads with hardly any trigger time and feels better in my hand than the p2000 now that i have the pearce baseplates.

If you buy the p2000 you might end up like me and want to eventually get the smaller gun...

2 inches +/- 1/16 of an inch. I measured my P2000sk right below the magazine release lever...from the center of the roll pin right above it to the end of the backstrap. I measured my USP .40 Compact and it's the exact same. The P2000 with the medium backstrap (or the smaller of the two supplied for the P2000sk) gives you the exact same grip circumference as the USPf .40 or USPc .40.

If your USPf .40 fits your hand correctly, the P2000/SK will too. Keep in mind that the SK will not give you enough room for all 3 fingers to fit comfortably. The factory supplied magazines with the pinky "extension" gives you a rather cramped fit for all 3 fingers, and makes tucking your pinky under the grip hard to do. IMHO the P2000sk is better when you get the "standard" flat magazine floor plates from H&K. This will allow you to tuck your pinky under the grip/magazine while still providing good support with your off-hand. You can still take very controllable shots with the P2000sk with a 2-finger grip, and it's still really comfortable. Just don't use the factory supplied magazine floor plates. They suck.

Below is a pic of the "standard" or "flat" H&K magazine floor plate on a P2000sk. Pic was found on google images, taken by Ken Lunde:

$699 seems a little high (to me anyway). I paid $739 @ Sportsman's Warehouse 2 yrs ago and that still their price. I've seen them new for over $800 in high end retail stores and for around $650 w/night sites at on-line places.

You guys are funny!

What is it with HKs, and the "Love at First Hold" syndrome???

I had it, too!

The salesman put the P2000 in my hand, and I knew right there this was my gun. Bam. Just like that.

I also bought a P2000SK in .40, and have found it's just a skosh less accurate due to the shorter barrel. However, my feeling is that the top of the gun looks the same as my P2000 .40, and the grip is the same. In other words, I'm keeping a standard sight picture and feel between my normal shooting gun and my carry gun.

I just learned about the X-grips on this thread, so I'll check those out. But even though I have pinky dangle with the SK, my control seems good and I don't mind it at all.

In the end, you gotta go with what truthfully gives you confidence, and what feels good. Only you can say.

thanks for the pics! I have small hands, and the UPS4 .40 feels a tad bulky. The other reason that I'm thinking about the P2000sk is that I want mom to be able to use it as well. so does the smallest backstrap that comes with the P2000sk makes the grip smaller than the UPSf .40? only if they have one of these at the shops around here!!!

thanks!

I was torn for a week between the P2000 and the USPc. For some reason the USPc fit better in my hands, and I had a better grip. The down side for me was I liked the ambidextrous slide release on the P2000, and I'm not a fan of the safety on the USP.

It was an impossible decisions.

I see a P30 or a P2000 in my future.

Whats the difference in the grip size between the uspc and the p2000 with the medium backstrap?

I do not know the dimensions, but I could tell a difference between the grips. My USPc's grip width and girth seems bigger than the P2000(sk). With my smaller hands the USP's grip is just a little too big for me. The P2000's fit me great.

I picked up my .40 S&W V3 P2000 used for $600, but it came with 2 extra mags (for a total of 4) and three holsters. Just make sure you don't jump at the first one you see. They are excellent weapons, but $699 used is a bit much. I've seen them new for only slightly more than that. Does it come with any additional accessories?
