I know this is a H&K forum but there seems to be a balanced view toward other manufacturers.

I am ready to buy a P30L in 9mm and my out of state brother-in-law insists that I should consider the 226 elite with SRT (short reset trigger). I made the mistake of telling him that I would likely send the P30L off to Springfield for a trigger job and his reply was why not get the Sig 226 Elite with the SRT and be done with it.

Need some of your thoughts as my personal deadline for purchasing a new high cap pistol is drawing near. Assume price is not a consideration.

No one locally has a P30L or a Sig 226 to handle.

Thanks for your help!:830:

BTW I have a P7M8 so I am not ignorant towards H&K quality.

If you want a steel framed SIG, go and buy a X-5. The Elite is not so good, because the beavertail is, unlike the one on the X-5, not cut to support a higher grip. In fact, it forces you to grip the gun lower than a normal P226.

I would buy the P30L and start saving money for a X-5. (I´m already doing so. :) )

If you want your P30L modified, than have a look at here:

Get the P30L. For the extra $55 for Bill Springfield to work on it with a week turnaround door to door you can't beat it. Your brother in law is envious of you!

I had the 226 elite in 9mm and the Sig triggers are awesome. Better than HK. But my P30L was more accurate than the elite and with a much better grip as well. I would suggest the P30 based on my experience with both.

I have both a P30L and a P226.. granted my 226 is not an elite version, and its a .40, but its likely similar enough to the Sig you are considering..

IMO these are two totally different animals... the P30L has a great (in my opinion best I have felt) grip which is superior to the P226 (again IMO)... it is also lighter as the sig has a steel frame. I just love the overall feel of the P30L and the fact that I can handle all the controls one handed (i have small hands)..

That being said I love the trigger on my 226.. it is far better then the stock one on the HK.. I don't have the SRT so i can't say how much more that would pull it ahead of the HK.

So.. unfortunately my suggestion to you is somehow find these two pistols and compare side by side... if you can't do that you really won't appreciate the differences... When I got the HK I compared it to the 226 9mm and quickly down selected the Sig.. the HK felt right for me... I'll likely be sending mine out to get trigger work done to compensate for its only flaw (again IMO).

BTW when I decided to get a .40 and compared the USP and 226 I quickly found I preferred the 226...

This is really like deciding between a Lamborghini and a Ferrari.. can't make a bad choice either way... :)

One thing to consider is that Sig's quality is not as good as HK.
This is from my own experience, as well as learning from sig forum memberds. The consensus on sig forum is that sig's qc has gone down the drain after kimber ceo took over. too much flashy models and too little qc

I can also agree with this. While I do still believe that my Sig is of far better quality then <insert other brand name here other then H&K> I definitely did notice that the build (especially the finish and some of the internals) is not as good as my H&K. Some very little nitpicking things I noticed when taking it apart for the first time... minor things that may mean nothing.. but things I did not see on my HK... my HK was perfect out of the box.

Some guy at work, (I have 3 jobs) got a 226 Elite in .40 cal w/ stainless slide. Alot of the rookies at work seem to like the guns w/ bling*, or larger guns to emphasize some 'chutzpah', I guess.... This is no surprise and may come from inexperience. Incidentally, he complains that his beautiful stainless slide is all scratched up along with those $100+ wood grips. Personally, I like useability, portability and quick carry/concealability combined with alot of firepower. As far as a 226, there are perhaps better alternatives such as the new 226 Blackwater. But that is $$$$$. :(

Don't let looks alone lead you into a decision. The Hk is a fine USEABLE piece. The 226 Elite has the lead in 'looks' & is a fine trophy piece. I'll tell you though, it does not balance as well, or may not be as reliable as my all German 226 CPO. The new Sig slides are not as cleanly milled -IMHO and does not come as close to the older slide (connosuer favored) carbon slides both in balance and design. I had to give up a great .45, 220R Carry (internal extractor), due to FTF issues (about 4 FTF's and one dbl feed in ~650 rds is UNACCEPTABLE, to me). The Sigs do not come polished on vital parts from the box. Such as polished breechface/extractor/feedramp/hammer ramp. It is not rocket science, wished they just DO IT. All those parts on an Hk is polished nicely and the machining work is excellent. I have not had a single failure in ALL my Hk's after thousands of rounds.

I disagree that the head of Kimber caused Sig to go into this *bling direction. It was occuring before that. I know because, I was invited by the previous Director at the Sig NH facility on a personal invite & 3 hour tour. I saw EVERYTHING. This was well before that transition took place. But, nevertheless, I pray that the new Kimber guy will do the right thing...Let's PRAY.

Either way, Sigs are not a bad gun and if you decide to go with it, plan on budgeting for a Hk down the road because by then, you probably will be getting the Hk anyway.

P30L + Bill Springfield = LOVE

I sent my USP off to Bill a couple of weeks ago and his work is fantastic! My P30L is next. Couple Bill's work with the accuracy of a P30L and you've got one sweet package.

Thank you for your help and suggestions.

Ordered P30L v.3 today, should be in by next Monday.

Please, help me find some additional magazines. Everyone seems to be out of stock.

Also, what is the brightest (highest Lumen's) LED rail light available?
