They list around $4200 in Canada. I don't think very many even came into the country.

Keep in mind everything HK is quite a bit more expensive in Canada vs. USA.

Some on here thought I had just commited a crime against humanity! Now it seems like everybody is starting to look at alternatives. Has that much really changed in three months? I guess I was just ahead of the curve.

I think the crime was suggesting the Ruger SR-556 as a suitable alternative!

I'll buy an MR-556 because I am an HK nut and I've wanted one for almost a decade now. Honestly though, $3,000 would be a tough pill to swallow.Especially since my LMT lower/BCM upper has been through 1500 rounds with nothing but a generous helping of lube.

f price is remotely an issue, people would be much better served with a Colt, LMT, Daniel Defense, or BCM AR-15 for considerably less.

2300 would be max for me. If I want a piston system and get pissed at HK I will go with the Ruger. HKs I love them but...... I am not going to continue the insanity/

I think a better comparison would be a POF 416 and those are going for less than $1500 here in Nevada. So with the H&K factor maybe another $500, so $2000 max for a MR223.

I would pay $0 since I was not able to wait and purchased a SCAR instead
The MR762 on the other hand is very enticing but it will depend on which comes out first, the MR762 or the SCAR Heavy and I would not spend more than $2600 on either
(The SCAR 16S cost me $2500 for those inquiring minds)

HK has nothing on Lewis Machine & Tool.

If you buy things from HK, you finance HK's garbage "trade dress" suits against clone manufacturers.

I don't own a rifle yet, as i posted at the end of other mr556 thread. but what sold me on finally buying a ar style rifle is the video of the dude going underwater with the 416 as compared to the colt. Now I'm just a regular dude and I don't think im some type of ninja warrior or weekend warrior whatever they call it. However I do kind of like that reliability in case the s"ever"htf and needed to go outside rain/woods having that type of reliability.

Will that type of reliability be offered in the mr556? Can the LMT piston style rifle do the same? I dont want the mr556 just cause its HK I want it because I'm willing to pay for the "best" like I do when it comes to glocks/hk's pistols but if the concensus is that other brands can do it...then maybe I should start thinking about an LMT...sdi...colt?
(first gun) H&K USPC .40 (SOLD)
    Glock 19
    Glock 26

Hope to have an MR 556 in the near future.

It's a cool video but it's just a sales promotion.

The reality is ---- at least IMO ----- the 416/MR223 has acquired "forbidden fruit" status. Between the barrel ban and HK sending out its silly "we consider these stolen" letters eveyone just HAS to have a 416/MR223. Now the truth is there is really nothing revolutionary at all about HK's piston design (or anyone else's). A short-stroke piston system (a la SL8/G36, 416, MR223, LMT, etc.) is more reliable because gases aren't being sprayed back into the operating parts. But they are generally a little less accurate because they don't have the essential advantage that the AR platform has -- very little interference with barrel harmonics owing to the fact that the gases are being vented back to the action (instead of operating a mechanical component that is attached to the barrel). (That is why guys can shoot 0.5 MOA groups with ARs, basically.) For a civilian user, it is highly debatable whether a short-stroke piston design is even an advantage. If you are going to clean your gun on any sort of regular basis then it is very unlikely you are ever going to have a reliability problem on an AR platform....especially in light of the fact that you will not be shooting 600 rounds per minute on full auto. If that concern goes out the window, then it is very debatable whether the piston design is an improvement at all. I guess it's less likely to blow up if submerged in water and then lifted back out and fired quickly.....but, uh, were you gonna do that anyway?

Like most people here, I got "into" HK rifles because of the G3/33/91/93 roller locked .223 and .308 rifles. Through a series of poor business decisions, HK has entirely lost that market. Now that HK realizes it screwed up, it's suing people who are producing the designs ---- that HK never held any patent rights to -- on trumped up "trade dress" allegations.

So it's like, HK's a great company, but you know, not so much any more.

Mercedes is a great company. But you have to admit there was a big slide after the Daimler merger in 1995. I bought a 95 E300 diesel without any reservations, but I passed on a lot of 96s and 97s that had the screwed up new body style. And I am guessing I will be passing on the MR223 as well, as it is rather unlikely to have any price on it that is even remotely reasonable.

Good post, starting to see the point.
