Sighting in a P2000

Quick question for the experts.

When adjusting the sights on a P2000, the rear sights move elevation (up, down) and the the front post moves side to side?

So if I need to bring the POI up and right, I move the rear sight to the left and the front post left?

Thanks.

Try to do all of your adjustment with the rear sight only, don't drift your front sight unless you cannot correct with the rear sight. Move your rear sight to the right & up. I am asuming that you have adjustible sights.....

I'm not certain if what your are suggesting about moving your sights is what you really mean? If you move the front to the left and the rear to the left, you really won't change anything? For lateral change you move the front post opposite direction and rear same direction (to move right, front post goes left, or rear notch moves right, or both.) To raise or lower POI, you would move the rear in the direction you wish it to change, lower to lower, raise to raise. Simply, to raise and move the POI to the right you would raise the rear and move it to the right, or raise the rear and move the front post to the left. Just one more thing, if someone is shooting low and left, they are probably anticipating recoil (flinching) and the sights are probably not off.

Good luck!

All HK pistol sights are zeroed at 25 meters before leaving the factory. Be aboslutely certain it is not just your shooting (sight picture, grip, etc.) and is in fact the sights before adjusting them. I suggest bench resting the pistol first to rule out user error.

The rear sight is drift adjustable for windage (left-right). There is no elevation adjustment.

Dummy me has made that mistake more than once...thinking the gun just wasn't sighted in for my weirdness. Not true. The grip panels can be adjusted, the sight picture can be experimented with, the trigger pull and follow throught can be attended to...I found on two occassions that HK really does a great job zeroing the guns. Just my opinion. Others may differ. Good Luck. I will say the front sight is a bear to get right once you tap it off center. Rear ain't all that easy to get zeroed again either.

HK's are a mechanical device like any pistol, they can be flawed or need adjustment. As Bentonville said, be sure your pistol's sights actually needs adjusting before doing so.

My P7M8, which has an aftermarket refinish, always shot consistently left. Upon confirming this by firing it from a rested position, I drifted the rear sight slightly. Now it shoots dead center.

A factory NIB HK pistol has very little chance of the sights being mis-aligned. That is unless the german guy doing it was crosseyed. ;)

I'll chime in here. I thought the sights on my new HK45 might have been off when I first got it, too. Then I figured out I just had lousy trigger control from being taught by someone with lousy trigger control... lol At least that's the excuse I'll go with.

Shoot it some more first and practice bump drills. I'd be willing to bet you start hitting the bullseye, too.
